So mainly a comet is supposed to get close to earth alot of DoomNerdz say it will cause crap but im actully looking forward to it, explain me the comet and even the debunking to its false claims of pole shifts etc, bikenbeer already explained me a bit on another post, just want a sumupp.
Comet Elenin was discovered by a Russian amateur astronomer, Leonid Elenin. It will make its closest approach in mid October (about 30 million kilometers). It should give us a nice show, but is no threat to Earth. Thirty million km is nearly as far away as Venus at its closest to Earth.
The silly claims being made by ATS and godlikeproductions are debunked here:

I explained a bit about the comet in an earlier posting here.
One thing that sets the doomsday brigade off is the appearance of comets and planets in images from the solar observatory satellite SOHO. The latest image from the LASCO/C3 instrument can be seen here. These, plus reflections, over-exposed images and false readings resulting from cosmic rays are invariably interpreted as Planet X or alien spacecraft by the doomsday nuts.
This year, between September 23rd and 29th, Comet Elenin should be passing through the field of view of LASCO/C3. Expect a flurry of idiocy with YouTube videos and other wild claims about Planet X to take place at that time. Either that or 'proof' that the comet's tail will bathe the Earth in deadly particles or noxious gases.
Mark the dates and remember, you read it here first.
I did some simulations and it turns out that the comet might be visible in my place for a couple of days before it gets lost under the horizon again end of October. I am planning to buy a bigger telescope just for that and for my own. :-) My big concern is not to buy too big to get it in my car.
Wow nasa actully de-bunks all these hoaxes , great i never knew it.
I Typed in 2012 on Nasa.gov/ and it told me about it Like A Q:A
So mainly what you guys de-bunk here is whats on nasa.
Really cool NASA Has better things to do like orbit mercury :D
Thanks alene y.
Well, we don't get what we debunk from NASA. It's just that they are getting the same kinds of questions that we see most often. We look at the most common claims related to 2012 and debunk them here. On NASA's Ask an Astrobiologist page, thry get many questions about 2012 although theirs isn't specifically about 2012, so we often end up debunking the same ones. We haven't done a page on Comet Elenin because it isn't related to 2012, but we might end up putting something on the Comet page. We have Apophis there and it isn't a 2012 claim, although it was before most people learned that it has no chance of being a threat in 2012.
