Guys can you guys explain/debunk this for my family!!! Please please please before they go super insane. Thank you.
The whole 11 is just numerology, which is basically attaching some kind of mystic importance to certain numbers. It can be fun/interesting but should not be taking overly serious. For instance, something bad was supposed to happen on 1/11/11 and I was still feeling anxious back then and was feeling crappy all day that day, but it came and went without anything happening and I was relieved. It is bunk, we have a page here that discusses it a bit.
“In all matters of opinion, our adversaries are insane.” - Oscar Wilde
I haven't heard any claims that 11/11/11 would be the end of the world. When it was thought that the winter solstice in 2012 was going to occur at 11:11 UTC, people started getting themselves all worked up whenever they saw those numbers. The reason people notice it more is because they have heard about it and are watching for it. On 12 hour clocks, that is the only number that ever appears with all 4 digits the same, and it appears twice a day. So, in addition to seeing it because you are looking for it, you also see it twice a day, just as a function of using 12 hour clocks.
Newer data shows that the winter solstice on 12/21/12 (not 11/11/11) will be at 11:12 UTC. So the date and the time you asked about have no significance whatever. I hope this helps. Be sure to read the page on the 11:11 phenomenon that Diesel linked.
thank you guys so much. My family had been driving me crazy about this because yah im
The geek in the family. Well athlete/geek. LOL thank you guys so much. If you guys can get more info, please let me know and I'll make them read this. XD THANKS GUYS.
Hi Keona,
I just did a search for the date and found out it's a movie, something about a portal opening to another dimension. It's just fiction. Since it's 2:22 AM (just thought I'd throw that in), I'm going to bed, but I'll look around some more tomorrow.
Awww I'll call you anty alene for respect like here in Hawaii. Thank you anty so much. It's just that I have so much to do and I'm so frustrated by these. Aloha from the ohana.
Hi Keona,
That's nice. Actually, I meant that as a bit of a joke, since we were talking about repeated numbers on the clock. I looked up as I was about to post and saw that it was 2:21, so I just had time to add that last sentence in time for it to become 2:22. You see, one can even manipulate observational bias.
Actually all the Naval Observatory did was round the latest calibration off to the nearest minute. Instead of 11:11:22 it is now 11:11:38 - and still within the 11:11 window.
The "11:11 window?" The exact time can in no way be made to fit the numerological fantasies of woo artists, so it's a window now? A window for what? And this is significant … how?
Solstice and equinox times are ALWAYS given to the nearest minute [by the USNO], and the celestial bodies involved in these occurrences don't care what our clocks say.
Have you had a look at his website?

Yeah, though my interest plummeted at "channeled information, time wave novelty theory," and my b.s.-o-meter pegged at "cosmic portal." Fantasy.
Yep, he has a vested interest in the "11:11" thing since his whole site revolves around it.
“In all matters of opinion, our adversaries are insane.” - Oscar Wilde
and still within the 11:11 window.
Sorry, the solstice will be at 11:12. Live with it.
Perhaps you should update your website.
Indeed. And ultimately, it's true. The Solstice and every planet ever doesn't give a crap about our way of telling time.
Oh, and if you want to be technical? There's further decimals the "11:11" people ignore. It goes far, far, /far/ beyond just 11:11:38.
But, yes. To the nearest minute, thus being 11:12. That is like saying 11:12:38 is 11:12. It's 11:13.
Quit cherry picking, scrub.
Hey Moo, how is Boo?

11/11/11 11:11 end of the world???
Nope, just the date that you win the lottery; ;-)
The date 11/11/11, 11:11 is unavoidable if you have a calendar and a starting day. The gregorian calendar is man made. It's not a countdown to anything. If they made some claim to this date, I will say just: LMAO (I don't like these acronyms, but I have to use it sometimes).
As far as I know, the only thing that's going to happen on 11/11 is the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which I will probably pre-order well in advance. ;)
People who invoke numerology have to set up so many hoops and contortions of logic to make their crap "work," it's baffling to me how anyone can take it seriously. Take 11/11/11. Ooooh, three 11's. But it really isn't. It's 11/11/2011. And it's not even really that, but November 11, 2011 or 11 November, 2011.
The world didn't end on 10/10/2010 at 10:10, or 9/9/2009 at 9:09, or 8/8/2008 at 8:08, or 11/11/1911 at 11:11. Really, there's nothing to "debunk," other than to say there's no reason to think it means anything, and anyone who wants to attach significance to a particular time on the sheer basis of how the numbers we use look has the burden of supporting that claim.
Moo:
Seriously, 11/11/11 passed nearly two-thousand years ago.
This. ^^^
Don't forget all of the fringe Christian groups who were worked up over June 6th, 2006.

Hey, steady on, if I recall a boat sank on Jun 6th 1906.
Oh yeh i was thinking about this 11/11/11 How can 3 11's be any diffrent from 2 anyways nothin heppand on 1/11/11 so nothin will heppan on neither that date and numerology is nonsence.
Remember 6/6/6 ??
Its 2011 so were gonna see alot of 11:11 out there dont be suprised but remember its nonsence and just numbers.
LOL thank you guys so much for all the responses. I'm so sorry the family is just so crazy about this kind of stuff. And I keep telling them about this site. Oh and I told the scared students in my school about this site. Haha and actually I thank you for educating me with a lot of things. Astronomy is so interesting. Just being able to understand what's happening is so much fun. And plus it doesn't go against my faith as a catholic. XD
and LMAO on all the funny comments. Gotta love you all.
Hi Keona,
There's no need to apologize. That's why we're here, to help people who are being frightened by all the 2012 nonsense. I'm very glad to hear that you're telling the students at your school as well.
That is great that you are developing an interest in Astronomy. You are the third person to tell us that this week. It would be very exciting if we inspired some people to become astronomers.
I am seriously considering going to school for it or some other science degree that I have gained an interest in from this site.
“In all matters of opinion, our adversaries are insane.” - Oscar Wilde
Hey Diesel,
I love the idea that we might be inspiring a group of new scientists. That isn't something that we even thought of when we started out.
Yeah, and I def did not think about learning or gaining a new interest when I first became aware of all of this. It has just caught my interest so much though. I love talking to people about the things I am learning from this website and through my own research. That is why I like helping people here in the forums and why I am on here so much. The only thing I have been to school so far is for an "Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediate" training, but I definitely am thinking about doing something scientific. I also want to go into law enforcement though, so yeah. :-P
“In all matters of opinion, our adversaries are insane.” - Oscar Wilde
I'm going into law enforcement! :)
*live*laugh*love*dance*
Well aren't we all just one big happy law enforcement family?! :-P Hey Jason, out of curiosity did James message you the reply from the guy who did the documentary on PG?
“In all matters of opinion, our adversaries are insane.” - Oscar Wilde
I have to admit that the response he got was rather comforting, especially coming form somebody who has met him in real life and has talked to him.
“In all matters of opinion, our adversaries are insane.” - Oscar Wilde
Ohhh, no, we created a monster! LOL
Next you are going to buy a big telescope :-)
Oh you don't know how I wish I had some extra money for a telescope, sooo bad. For now I just settle for my binoculars, lol. :-P
“In all matters of opinion, our adversaries are insane.” - Oscar Wilde
I'd start with finding a club near you. right now, I'm so lost learning the sky the hard way "-)
Yeah I need to find one around here, shouldn't be to hard since we live in a major city.
“In all matters of opinion, our adversaries are insane.” - Oscar Wilde
I finally decided. Haha nursing and astronomy for college, thanks for inspiring me guys, I had found a new family here :)
I predict in 1 year from now, 90% of the members here will be astronomers ;-)
I predict in 1 year from now, 90% of the members here will be astronomers
I will be a physicist, a chemist or a weatherman (that's good… they don't need to respond to doomsday claims). :-) I don't wanna be an astronomer, even physics, for example, being so important to it.
Hey Tomy,
Those are all good choices. Being a weatherman has the added bonus of keeping your job without ever needing to be correct, jk. No offense to weathermen.
Come to think of it, doomsayers have that advantage as well. Of course doomsaying isn't an actual occupation, more like a preoccupation.
My list may increase, because there are many options. I heard that scientists don't receive too much. But, if I do something that I like, I may become a good scientist, rather than a fool politician (no offense). :-D
However, I have no idea :-(
Hi Keona,
Nursing and astronomy, how does that work? Maybe you will be nursing the 2012ers who think they have been killed by galactic alignments, dark rifts, and such. I'm just kidding. We have several people who have different day jobs and moonlight as astronomers.
moonlight? No, not moonlight! Moonlight = bad! I prefer the new moon, or up to several days after. At least then the moon sets shortly after the Sun.
All kidding aside, the amateur astronomers are the ones taking the lead in debunking the whole Nibiru/Planet X thing. We're the ones going into classrooms or giving astronomy presentations on sidewalks or at star parties, and we're the ones getting all of the "OMG did you hear about the planet/asteroid/comet/black hole that is going to hit us???" questions.
Being a professional astronomer sounds like way too much pressure, gotta teach, gotta publish, gotta write grants. I'd much rather have a day job that pays well enough to buy a decent backyard scope.
"Do you ever think about things you do think about?" - Henry Drummond to Matthew Harrison Brady in Inherit the Wind
Alene Y You gave me a huge laugh :D
People who think they got killed by a dark rift haha :D
Think about this
11/11/1911 AT 11:11 The world did not end, Same story here this year is definataly a Nonsence Numerology year.
Welllll..the 11.11.11 movie comes out on that date…so it would suck that they spent that much time and energy on something that would never be seen. Haha
*live*laugh*love*dance*
LOL you guys made me laugh. Yah I want to be an amateur astronomer too but at the same time, I want to be a nurse. You guys inspired me in so many ways. Much mahaloz from the island of Hawai'i.
