Today one of the best selling Newspapers in the u.k, called "the sun" had a four page pull out dedicated to, in their own words "the Mayan prediction for the end of the world in 2012". So who did they have discussing this and giving opinions? Astronomers? Nope. Astrophysisists? Nope. Mayan scholars? Nope. Well who then I hear you ask! Psychics. Yes, that's right, psychics. People who claim to be able to talk to the dead. Yup. And oh the drama, "the earths magnetic field has shifted! Dead birds are raining from the sky! Fish dumped miles inland! Supermoon! Earthquakes"! One self proclaimed psychic tells us "at times like this I'm glad I have psychic powers, but even we can't explain everything". This newspaper is the same rag that hyped up the animal deaths a few months back calling it afflockalypse and declaring it a sign, only to print small paragraphs of two or three lines when the bird deaths were explained. Yet now, they are using it again. "a jackdaw blitz in Sweden" they scream, as if 50 birds getting hit with a truck is significant. Most annoying though, are these fakes making out they are some kind of experts. This article tells us "2012 is the end, but of what"? So really it tells us nothing, it's just stupid fearmongering by a bunch of hacks and pretend psychics! I urge anyone who lives in the u.k to boycot this newspaper, as the fearmongering and downright lies it has crammed into one 4 page peice of nonsense is completely uncalled for. Sorry for the rant, but I'm angry as hell right now.
In a way that sounds like something worth reading, but of course it is the Sun, and there's a bit of history that tars it's reputation for many, many people already.
If you read it you'll see them making the false claim that nostrodamus said something about 2012 as well. I think here in the u.k we don't hear much about the whole 2012 thing, I'm just worried that this type of thing is going to turn it into a big deal here as well. Apparently the sun doesn't do very well in Liverpool, and no wonder with that headline.
I had a look through a copy of Tuesday's edition of The Sun in the newsagent's and saw nothing about 2012.
Its in a pullout inside called the oracle, every week three psychics answer questions and talk about different topics. This weeks was based on 2012. It's titled "do we have a future".
Maybe it's only in the Scottish sun, i know there's a slight difference but I assumed that the psychic thing would be in both versions north and south of the border.
Surely the Scots aren't presumed to be more willing to lap up that sort of rubbish? I always took them for more of a no-nonsense approach to life.
Yeah, we get more worked up about the price of alcohol going up. I'd be really surprised if it was only in the Scottish version. I wish one of you guys could have read it, it was one barrel of nonsense after another. One of the "psychics" claims to be an angel whisperer, whatever that is. Everything was there, the 11.11 garbage, the signs we should be seeing, nostrodamus etc. Really annoyed me when I saw it.
This Google search leads me to think that it's only in the Scottish Sun.
That's the one. At least the rest of the u.k don't have to read that garbage. Thanks for clearing that up.
At first I thought that it might be a one-off supplement. Perhaps it's not so bad if it's a regular feature. If it were just the one, people might be inclined to think that it was something special and noteworthy. As it is, I'm sure most regular readers probably know that they should throw it straight in the bin.
I will create a newspaper called "The Moon". I won't have psychics discussing anything, just astronomers, archaeologists, geologists and chemists. No psychics. That's my plan.
Now, that's an article that The Sun wrote in 2009 about the 2012 doomsday:
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/features/2087784/Will-the-world-end-on-December-21-2012.html
They don't even show the 'another side' of the thing, and worse:
Worryingly, the prediction is backed up by scientists, respected scholars and modern technology. - The Sun
That's a claim done by most doomsayers around the world. "The scientists and scholars agree with the claims". Auch! That really hurts. I can't believe how a respected newspaper could shamelessly lie to its "loyal" readers.
I actually remember that article, they had professor Brian Cox tucked at the bottom of the page with a few lines from him saying it was all nonsense. That seems to be their style. Thanks for that link tomy.
Also, they had 3 quotes from Adrian Gilbert, author of a woo book "The End Of Time: Mayan Prophecies Revisited". He is not even a scientist. He is another 'money eater'.
They had just one quote from Sue Bowler, the only scientist I found in the article. :-(
