I was searching and i found that a guy called Thomas Malthus made a prediction that soon the natural resources will end. This will result in the end of the humanity. We can't live without water, food and even petroleum. These resources are running low. We have about 7 billion people on the Earth today. The predictions are that the population will reach 10/12 billion and then it will stop growing, because we will have less children in the future. But could our Earth support that HUGE amount of people? There is already famine in lot of places like Africa. We still buy clothes, electronics and other stuff. That's consumerism, and i think it is the reason of the apocalypse.
What's YOUR opinion?
Not this dead horse again….
Buying "clothes, electronics and other stuff" isn't consumerism per se. Back to Econ 101 for somebody. Whatever the case, the alternatives to buying "clothes, [etc.]" seem limited to 1) the people of a society voluntarily deciding that less is more, which ain't too likely except perhaps over a span of generations, or 2) a government forcing people into having less, which in effect says that people are too stupid to take care of themselves, so we need people to take care of them.
Just search the board for "peak oil." We've been around and around about this general issue, and if I recall, the proponent was pretty hostile. We will reach peak oil someday, yeah, but that doesn't automatically translate to doom and gloom. OPEC projects supply to keep pace with demand for at least another couple of decades, accounting for growth. Consumer demand is already stirring for alternative sources. Where there is demand, within reason, there is a way.
This has nothing to do with 2012 or any kind of apocalypse, despite your choice of words.
My guess is this: As more of the Earth's inhabitants gain more education (through online proliferation of info), more of them will reject harmful practices from their past (i.e. unchecked baby-making) and begin to live in more sustainable ways (i.e use birth control, live simpler lives, etc.).
Unless I'm wrong on the studies: More education = fewer children per family.
The energy question has already been addressed. Also, electronic versions of physical products will continue to decrease supply for certain elements and resources (paper, plastics used to make CDs and DVDs, celluloid for film, ink, etc.)
Famine in Africa has more to do with geopolitical issues and coercive deprivation. The people may be starving but you can bet their leaders are not.
Can the earth support 10-12 billion? There's no real reason to suppose it can't. We're only using a fraction of available land and improvements in agricultural yields have and will result in sufficient foods for everyone. We don't have a food problem. We have a distribution problem resulting from the politics of deprivation.
Malthus did not figure in the Industrial Revolution nor advances in science when he wrote his papers on overpopulation. The advocates of population control since his time always point to scarce resources and how we need to pay attention to them. Club of Rome of the 1970s cooked their stats to fire people up. And it continues….. however people are good at figuring out how to get what they need. I often encounter this argument amongst people who either have latent consumer desires but cannot fulfill them or people who have what they want but do not want to share. Both groups tend to live incongruent lives by shaming the rest of us into giving up our desires etc.
About the petroleum, if it ends, it'd be hard, but we can use other natural resources to replace the petroleum. It's not the end of the world if it ends. However, I understand your concern and it's a recent concern of the science too. But I face it with optimism, as a problem that we can solve with intelligence, not crying. It's not the end. Instead of worry about this, why don't you help the planet?
If it comes to the point where i have to eat my video game system i will :D

Listen. The cellphone you use has a chip made of some metal, like the silicon. The wood used in some buildings came from a forest, from a tree. Your car is made of many metals taken from the nature. Everything is metals, wood, water (i can't even tell you how much water we use in the production of objects), energy, etc. These resources will end. And if they run low, we will "run low" too. That's the end of humanity.
There will be nothing left in the world to use. We will have to eat crap, if we continue abusing of the natural resources like we are doing, we would have to go to another planet, because the world won't support us anymore.
I'm concerned about that. I really am.
Oh, you are still crying. If you are worried about the world, why don't you help?
It's what the environmentalists are doing. Join Greenpeace, Eric. Do it and no worries anymore. It's concerning, but there is always a solution.
Listen.
No, you listen.

These resources will end.
Metals in particular are simply recycled back into the earth and can be recycled as they are. Scrap metal is big business. Also, maybe you've heard of the water cycle. Earth isn't running out of water. Areas predisposed toward droughts and water shortages will always experience them. Trees are a slightly different matter, but they can be replenished. Tropical deforestation is the major concern in that regard, but it's more a matter of its climate effects than humans running out of wood. Seriously, do you actually understand any of this, or are you just speculating based on what you imagine reality to be? Conserving natural resources is important, sure, but your hysterical way of thinking is overkill.
And if they run low, we will "run low" too. That's the end of humanity.
Hysterical overkill, and no, for reasons I've already explained.
There will be nothing left in the world to use. We will have to eat crap, if we continue abusing of the natural resources like we are doing, we would have to go to another planet, because the world won't support us anymore.
Don't be ridiculous. You sound like a kid, in which case I'll try to be tolerant here. If what you describe is even possible, you'll be long dead before it happens, and it will require a degree of unmitigated stupidity that transcends even what we see in the world currently.
I'm concerned about that. I really am.
See above.

You mean sillicium which is basically pure sand? Rare?
Nuclear fusion is a good replacement of energy. We just have to invest into the research.
Also nanotechnology and biotechnology can be used to extract metals and materials form waste.
Biotechnology can actually grow food out of thin air with a bit of addition of some chemicals that are not in the thin air. yes plants do the same trick, extract the carbon from CO2.
Currently we are in a transition phase which is perfectly normal. When the pressure comes people will invent new ways.
The technology is there, all we need is investing in the research.
But, it has to happen one day. The day is now known. I have also read something similar on this sites «spam site deleted», which gives some tips on survival.
Anyway, we need to be well prepared on this.
Thanks,

The day is now known.
What day would that be?
I have also read something similar on this sites «spam site removed», which gives some tips on survival.
2012howto.com is a scam site along the same lines as 2012officialcountdown.com which you can read about here. All you get is false doomsday claims and a standard survival guide, telling you nothing you can't already obtain from reputable sources. If you live in an area prone to earthquakes or hurricanes, by all means read up on and take sensible precautions. There's no need to make any special provision for 2012 or any other particular year.
But, it has to happen one day. The day is now known.
Woops! Just pointing out that it has to happen one day if we don't do anything to stop polluting, wasting etc. But we don't have a very dark future. See the new wind power plants being built all over the world to replace old polluting power plants? See the forthcoming conscience about recycling and no-waste? I'm saying, no need to worry about this. Just do your part.

Woo.
Anyway, we need to be well prepared on this.
I think we are. Better also get new resources to replace old ones like the oil. If we keep wasting, that's not the way. These changes require a better ecological conscience.
I've been suspicious about your postings and it seems that my suspicions are not unfounded.

Resolved QuestionIs there any survival kit for 2012 disasters?
2012 is going to be a major transition period. The year is a mystery and different stories and movies have been developed on this. Why is it so?

There is no kit as such available in the market. Normally people come up with something once the event is over. If you look at Japan, they got Tsunami warning, but people started fleeing the place. During the earth quake they went outside the building and stayed for long. The only thing, which we can do is to learn the survival tips. Try this site, which has ample survival tips and materials to take care of this level of disaster. Let's protect ourselves and be aware.
The key is awareness.

So it looks to me as if you've got at least two accounts on Yahoo! Answers so that you can answer your own questions and spam 2012howto.com as well as spread alarm about the need to 'be prepared'. If you think you are going to do it here, then you can think again.
I thought about deleting your posts but I've left them for the moment with the links disabled. Other moderators may not feel so charitable.
Are you signed up as an affiliate on that site, Dany? Do you get $27 for each sale generated by your clickbank link?

Hey Astro,
The spam site is repeated in most of the following posts. It's still here about 8-10 times. I think it should be gone, but don't feel comfortable deleting anything from other administrators' posts, if I even can. Perhaps everyone who used it in their responses should delete it.
I've modified the links so that they don't actually lead to the 2012howto site. I'll leave it to Astrogeek to decide if this is sufficient. The links might become 'live' again if someone copies and pastes the text into a reply. There's also nothing to stop someone copying and pasting the text into a browser window.
We obviously don't want a direct link from this site to a scam site but I guess the links might become 'live' again if copied into a Google cache or something like the Internet Archive Wayback Machine.
Perhaps Astrogeek could give us his opinion.
Jesus, that's embarrassing. Honestly, you people really are the scum of the earth. Dany or whatever your name is, how does it feel to contribute nothing to society? How does it feel to scare kids to "earn" money. I'd give anything for five minutes in a room alone with scum like you.
The great thing about science is, it's true whether you believe in it or not.
Also alot of people who butcher the bible try to use the fact that the population is going to be big in 2050 , and that the resources will run out

By the time we run out of resources, we will be onto new and better things. With the population being that high…. There is enough room in Wyoming, there isn't really anyone there! :)
