…no one of the people I know believe in 2012. I also found a site (an old one) that says the end of the world will be on Dec 21st 2011.

My real question
Why do you think that will happen trough 2012? I've read about a group in Spain that is preparing for the doomsday (it also says that it costs a lot). But not only there, in Quintana Roo or Yucatan there's also a place where some europeans (italians I think) have established a set of security houses inside the jungle.
What is going on?

What I'm expecting:
I think that the closer the date (12/21/12) there would be news about people going to bomb shelters or something like that? Wouldn't that spread more fear?

Also, thank you guys…I have always feared of natural disasters, death, etc..and the 2012 thing just worsened my fears. However I still have my fears. The good side is that where I live a natural disaster is unlikely because the geographical location.

But anyways..as I said…thank you for everything.

I think your right that as the date gets closer we will see a lot of people doing silly things. What you have to realise is that every year, some group or cult somewhere is preparing for a doomsday to occur. All you have to do is try to remain calm and rational, and don't be one of the people who fell for a huge lie. Trust me, they will feel pretty stupid when absolutely nothing happens.

What is going on?

I think 2 things.

First a money scam, ripping people form their money by selling them a bunker or survival stuff.
Second which is worse, people using 2012 hype as a way to start a sect and they are the big guru from that sect which gives them lots of power. The dangerous part is when the sect leader starts to realize that nothing will happen and he will lose all his power.

Hi Peplo,
No one I know believes it either, but it seems to be spreading through schools like head lice. I mostly know about it due to the internet.
One thing that baffles me about these "shelters" is, if the end of the world were actually coming, what good do they think a shelter would do them? I don't think there will be many going to those extremes. I'm more concerned about adolescent boys who can't distinguish between their video games and reality. so they fantasize themselves as great zombie fighters and heroes. There might actually be those who believe that they won't be punished for whatever they do because they think the world is going to end. I plan to stay home that day since there may be crazies running around.
On the other hand, we're working to teach them that it's all a hoax. Maybe they will have absorbed that fact and moved on to another "flavor of the week" by then. Well, I can dream, can't I?
