I have a friend that heard about the world ending in 2012 a few months ago. She has since been on medication and having anxiety attacks. I showed her this site, thinking it might help but it hasn't. She has now started getting in debt with no intention of paying it back and she has given up on her studies (she wanted to become a teacher) she keeps saying this site has been created by the government to stop wide speed panic. What can I do to help her?? I'm totally stuck and very worried! Thanks for any help and advice you can give me.
It's easy to claim something is a conspiracy theory when they have no real evidence or belief for something happening. Ask her what in particular she thinks will happen, that will make it a lot easier to calm her.
Just tell her the obvious. How can this site be made by the government, it has authors and contributors from all over the world.
That's obvious to many people who read and contribute to the site but I can empathize with why her friend feels this way. It would just be easier to find out what her friend thinks will happen and debunk that rather than explain to her why a 'conspiracy site' is trying to dismiss her 'conspiracy theory' XD
Also forgot to log in up top, my bad
Yeah, I think Bish has the right of it here. I'm wondering what exactly she thinks will happen, and why. Also, what exactly is wrong on this website? If she doesn't have any answers, maybe that's a step toward pointing out how irrational and reckless she's become.
Hi Emma,
I don't know what pages she might have looked at here, but it might help to show her the videos of Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson and Dr. David Morrison on their respective pages. Sometimes people will accept something more easily if they watch a video by a knowledgeable person. Just go down the menu to the Guest Views. You'll find these and several more actual experts, not the phony "experts" you see on the Hysteria Channel doomathons.
Jeez tell her about Y2K Thats first
And all of these things that failed and will keep failing
Than explain to her what a hoax , conspiracy theory and un-scientic claim are than make her read this site.
No man knows the day nor the hour when the world will end.
Become a debunker and help out those that are being fed up with lies spread by False scientists going after you'r money.
Practice what you want to and dont give up on you'r dreams my dream is to become a basketball player 'NBA'
Jeez tell her about Y2K Thats first
I was thinking… it's a good idea. But it depends on child's age. Nobody can say "remember Y2K" to a 12-year-old child, because in 2000, he/she was 1-year-old. :-D Maybe some adolescents will remember Y2K.
But we can say "these claims are always done by doomsayers. Every year they set a date for the end".
