hi. someone posted this in the comments section of the raymond mardyks page:

and as a lay person who knows nothing of science or astrology or the Maya people , I hafta say that the only thing I have to go on is being plagued with strange dreams for many years, this led me to Ivan Stien and others and the theory that goes with them'

i know he sounds crazy but that bit that worrys me is that a lot of his dreams come true? do you think they can?

Why would you even entertain the possibility that magical claims posted by random strangers on Internet woo forums are true?

Ivan Stein is a crank. Raymond Mardyks is a crank (and very hostile). I have no idea how to respond when people show up here and say things like, "Some guy on some forum said the world will end," or "Some guy said he's having dreams that come true in three days." I mean, really, what do you expect anyone to say?

it wasnt on a woo forum, it was on this very website. but yes i see your point, and i wish i didnt entertain the possibility, but i once had a dream where the very next day it came true, and so i dont immediately dismiss claims like this. also, i cant see his motivation for lying.

Okay, so it was someone from a woo forum posting here. I stand corrected.

Frankly, I don't believe you. At best, you might have correlated some very general category of event with something you dreamed. When people obsess about things, it comes as no surprise that they dream about them.

and so i dont immediately dismiss claims like this.

I do, until given a reason not to. Maybe you should, too. Extraordinary claims … extraordinary evidence, and so forth.

I can think of plenty.

• He's delusional.
• He thinks it's funny or otherwise entertaining.
• He craves attention.
• He has an underlying agenda (e.g. 2012 woo).
• He's swallowed male bovine feces wholesale, which you're in danger of doing if you haven't already.

Don't discount the power and prevalence of the second item. A quick jaunt through any large woo forum like ATS or GLP should illustrate this. Fantasies and absurdities abound, and there's no shortage of suckers willing to believe any and all of it.

It's also rather strange how only people who have already concluded that magical forces are real and affect our lives seem to be in tune with these alleged magical events and dream phenomena. It's kind of like how only people who fear demons and demon possession seem to get "possessed" by "demons."

I think if someone is thinking about doomsday while awake, they will probably dream about it as well.

Have you ever had a dream about a plane crash the night before a flight? Being late for a job interview the night before one? Dreaming about bugs crawling on you after you found a spider on your pillow that night?… I think the same could be said about folks with doomsday on the brain.

And this is assuming they are even having these dreams in the first place! The more the hoax spreads, the more people will be dreaming about it.

My mom once had an extremely vivid doomsday dream that did NOT come true (as the time has come and gone)… However, the night before she had the dream she did eat a good amount of Stilton cheese… And that cheese is known to cause people to have insane and vivid dreams… Maybe this guy just eats too much cheese and chitterlings before bed, hehe.

PS: If it makes you feel any better, I know quite a few folks (myself and family included) that do believe that very occasionally, dreams may come true (always on a very insignificant and personal level), or people are sensitive… I have asked, and all of these people firmly believe that 2012 is an absolute hoax.

Hi Eddie;

I'm going to say something that may offend you, but I'd like you to think about it, simply as a possibility, a suggestion of a potentially unexamined possibility.

There have been several cases in the medical literature of patients who experienced periodic episodes of a profound feeling of deja vu… the sense that they were experiencing something that they remember from before. That "This has happened to me before" feeling… and it seems to me to be a short step from feeling like "This has happened before" to "I think I had a dream about this". I'm not suggesting that this is what is happening in your case, but, if I were asked to examine a claim of precognitive dreams I would want to eliminate this as a possibility.

Now, it also turns out that some forms of epilepsy can induce these feelings of deja vu… and again, I'm not suggesting that this is what is happening in your case, and I am not a doctor, but again, it would be a question I would ask.

So, it is a possibility that the person who is experiencing 'strange dreams' that they feel are precognitive or predictive is experiencing something already known in the medical literature.

How do you feel about that possibility?

Between 15 and 17 I had about 3 deja-vues average per day.
They felt so real but in the end none of them mattered except for the weird feeling.

Its nature you think about something its possible youl dream about it, i dont get 2012 dreams though, maybe its because i know from a fact its psuedo-science… , i dream about waffles in the morning :D

hmm, tht might explain it, its only happened once though and it was a while back.something to think about.

im just going to ask one more question, dont think im crazy or anything, im not convinced by this guy, i just want to get it off my mind: he says it started 12 years ago, meaning 1998. was the 2012 rumour even around then?

It was around in some forms, but nowhere near the fevered pitch we see today. Since then, more and more woo artists have co-opted the year for their own purposes, like Nancy Lieder revising her Nibiru prophecy to 2012 after it failed in 2003.

Not too much. There were claims, but since last year, when the books and the movie 2012 appeared, the woo claims are more popular now. I knew about 2012 before the movie, but lots of people didn't know yet. Many forums and sites were created and the Internet 'woo people' decided to spread the stuff through the web. Then… you know.

The wikipedia article on dreams is pretty informative. It states that from study, people always remember dreams that they feel "came true" even if the dream had little to do with the reality. They took a group of people and made them write down every detail about their dream, and thats when they realized that their dreams were really not at all associated with the future.

Your mind plays tricks on you. You can see something everyday, and not remember a thing about it but it somehow shows up in your dreams. Then of course you see that same thing the next day and think that you foresaw it in your dreams, when in fact you had already seen it but never acknowledged it.
