Crop Circles

Some have even admitted to the creation of Crop Circles that are said to be man made. Others claim that the difference between the two is all in the effects on the stems of the crops themselves.
So tell me what you think. Are E.T's actually trying to warn us of the dangers of 2012 or is it all just the hoax. And when you do so, please do more then just state your opinion. Try to provide actual insight as to why crop circles are real or fake.

The second picture amazingly debunks the first one. It was [obviously] made by Firefox in order to promote its browser. The first picture is, well, not a publicity, but someone who decided to create his/her own crop circle in the farm. Waste of time, since if you own a farm you have more things to do, like… milk your cow? But c'mon, who never wanted to be famous by doing a crop circle (I want to have a farm just to make these things).
However, we got some people saying that "these things are large and a human can't do this". There are people who spend their lives making crop circles, and have this "hobby", as if it was a job.
We are not discussing if this is what really happens, but everything is more logical than aliens, for God's sake.

I know the second one is obviously fake. I just didn't want people to say "What makes the first one so much more real then the second one?" More recent methods of making these crop designs is by using a lawn roller, which actually causes less damage to the stem of the crop itself. While the others seem to show more damage. There's a theory that E.T's use some sort of "plasma vortex" to make the genuine crop designs.

Genuine? All crop circles are genuine, the second one is not fake. Actually, it's a crop circle as well as the first one. The second crop circle was made by Firefox, but it's still a crop circle, a publicity. ETs don't make crop circles, because they would not contact us by making crop circles. They would make something bigger, believe me.
The techniques used to make the crop circles are not unknown.

Please understand that when I say "fake" I mean, proven to be man-made. I've never seen anyone really debunk a crop circle. I don't think that it would be possible to make ones as big as some appear to be. Plus, the ones proven to be man-made are so much more simplistic than the others. Why would any designer of these crop circles have any interest in the alignment of our planets around the sun on December 23rd, 2012? Some people think that it's just the way that people could interpret these crop designs. But still, I've noticed that some of them go into greater detail.

And if you check the alignments of the planets in 2012 using certain websites, you'll find that the planets are aligned in the exact same way on 12/23/12. And they're aligned like this on no other date for that matter.

Even if we accept that this alignment is particular for 2012-12-23, this doesn't mean anything. The date has been trumpeted all over the media for quite some time, and looking up the positions of the planets for a given date is easy (as you said, it can even be done online). If I was a circlemaker who wanted to yank the chain of the 2012 believers, I would have done something similar.

LOL, the aliens made a mistake.

Pluto is at the wrong position, even Venus and Saturn.
Pluto is the worst off.

So I conclude these are not created by intelligent aliens.

The crop circle on top has such an alluring design! Gosh… I wish I can make a work of art like that. Oh, wait… so aliens actually went to design school and everything? Honestly, the way I see it, if aliens want to save us then they could do better than crop circles. Its design is extremely hard to understand. Besides, you can put meanings on almost anything.

Brief summary of the history of crop circles (may be inaccurate, I'm writing from memory):
The crop circle meme was started by two friends in England. One night in the pub one of them remembered a case in Australia where simple circles of flattened tall grass were supposed to be UFO landing sites. They decided to try and re-ignite interest in UFOs by doing something similar in a crop field. Their first attempts were not noticed and they were going to give up when finally the story broke. A meteorologist tried to explain away the circles with vortexes, so they tried again and again with increasingly complex formations, while the guy's explanations became more and more convoluted. More groups of circle makers started to appear, as well as "cereologists" who tried to find a meaning in the phenomenon. Of course, this only added fuel to the fire - convincing people that a circle is "real" scores a point for the pranksters.

Well, it's a legitimate question, especially since there's virtually no difference between the two, except that you know who created the second one.

Crop circles being created by some Levengood-ian "plasma vortex" is not a theory. It is an ad hoc claim devoid of peer support.

I often quote Robert Carroll, and he says it best once again:

"Had crop circles existed in the thirteenth century, they would have been attributed to Satan, who was said to have been responsible for many weird happenings as well as for many unweird things, such as the construction of Stonehenge and Hadrian's wall between England and Scotland. It was believed by many that the ancients could not possibly have accomplished such feats on their own. Because 2012 doom-saying is in vogue, apparently.

Also, it seem the aliens weren't aware of the IAU definition that excludes Pluto as a planet, and they failed to take notice of the positions of other dwarf planets.

And they're aligned like this on no other date for that matter.

I seriously doubt that. However, any given configuration is unlikely to be repeated except over long time scales, because the planets all orbit at different rates.

Definitely a neat crop circle, though. But as Juju said, 2012 is "In". 'tis no surprise that someone would take the 2012 plan- you know what, I don't feel like doing this right now.

If anyone with a number of programs used to view the planetary positions at X point in time are willing to see how that alignment up in that image holds up, by all means go nuts.

But as Juju said, we have more than just those planets in our solar system. Leaving them all out is kind of silly.

Finally, Crop Circles would be the stupidest way for aliens to communicate with us.

I've been trying to search these forums for the last time I used that argument, either I'm blind or dreaming I wrote it. You'd think a humorous conversation between two aliens using a bendinator would be easy to find…

No. Just no. If you're going to use the Firefox logo vs a complex design for a fake vs real comparison, then you're going to throw in a bit of bias. Hows about you watch this video. A crop circle spiritually dissected for its meaning and purpose… get a birds eye view (which perhaps laughably these people are even shown) and it was a commission for BBCs QI, their simple logo.

The point being, if you enter a crop field with a conclusion before you arrive at a bunch of bent crops, what's the point in objectivity? What's the point in being scientific about it? You've already assumed it was an alien, case closed. Completely ignoring the fact that every single crop circle design is easily within the 'design scope' of humans if you will, and only takes a bunch of people working together to pull off.

Although I don't know much about crop circles, they are definitely something that interests me quite a bit. I can't say that the one you provided as being 'real' is actually 'real' or if it is in fact 'fake', nevertheless they're pretty cool looking.. O_o

As for aliens being able to do better than a crop circle for communication, how do you all know that? Considering there's never been a factual case of aliens visiting us, or communicating with us, we have no idea what they would do to try and communicate with us, if they did. Movies put into our heads that aliens are some superior being, with a civilization/materials far more advanced then ours. Although this statement would be true if they DID come to Earth, since making something to get here, from basically any planet, would have to be extremely powerful. It sounds like I'm contradicting myself, I know, but I promise I'm not. Anyways, they may have advanced equipment, but what if they did use crop circles as communication? (Don't take this as me stating a fact, I'm just having a nerdgasm at the moment) What if they're advanced.. but simple in the same concept?

Not going to lie though, I do believe all of those were made by humans.. very artistic humans ;)

Quite right, the argument I use is that they've flown interstellar distances to communicate with an alien race (ourselves), and their first intention is to find a nice open field, flatten an often mathematical design into it, then run away and hide. Running away and hiding isn't really the best thing, is it? If you actively want to communicate with a species, a chimp say, do you leave a message in the dirt and run away, or do you try to approach it, try and read it's body language, gauge if a conversation is possible or not in the first place.

By necessity they must be superior or us to have a) built craft capable of interstellar flight and b) felt the need to actually set off and do it. But, when they get to the end of their journey, Earth, they hide. Doesn't make sense.

What if they're advanced.. but simple in the same concept?

The only thing we can compare crop circles to on this idea is the likes of the Pioneer plaque and the Voyager golden record. These were out first efforts of communication with someone or something else. Designed to explain where Sol was in relation to other stars in the galaxy, designed to show what we look like and where we live, and in the case of Voyager even designed to explain how to spin the record in order to hear music.

Contrast that with crop circles which are just artwork, and far more often than not artwork that can immediately be traced to centuries, even millennia old human designs and ideas. Even the fancy ones are really no more complex than what a kid can create on a Spirograph.

Elliott summed it up better than I could. This isn't elementary school where you're just realizing girls/boys don't have cooties, and you're trying to 'see what the grown ups do' with romancing. Poking them on the shoulder and running away never gets you anywhere.

So unless aliens constantly watch kindergarten television shows, I'd grant them enough intelligence to know playing hide and seek is stupid.

My opinion is that if the aliens are really here, they would do something bigger than circles on the ground. Like… invade the biggest cities of the world, such as New York, Paris, London etc, talk to the governments and even create their own country here. I think if they have been here since the biblical times, as some claim, a public appearance is quite overdue.

Apart from actually finding another planet on which life exists. That knowledge, and perhaps the knowledge of the 'locals' would be fascinating, personally, considering the sheer probability of life - we've theorized billions of extrasolar planets, we've observed over a thousand of potential extrasolar planets, over 500 confirmed extrasolar planets, 7 in our own backyard and only 1 where we know life exists.

Knowledge could be an incredible currency, if you're so advanced otherwise.
