Can planetary alignment cause eartquakes or even affect the earth at all? I know this is predicted for 2012 but there was also an earthquake predicted today for Rome due to the planetary alignment. I know none hit ROme but reports are saying that is what likely caused the earthquakes in Spain as Spain is not far away from Rome. There is talk that the guy that predicted the one in Rome due to the alignment got the right date just wrong place. Also, is everyoneon here still feeling pretty confident that all these natural disasters are normal? There have been so many lately! Flooding, tsunami's, earthquakes, mudslides, tornados, hurricanes, dying animals…we have been breaking records everywhere with all these disasters. It frightens me with how many terrible natural disasters we have been having. Thanks again everyone.

No. If you were to follow all the maths, you could add up the gravitational effects for all the planets, whether aligned or not, put them together, and you'd find they come nowhere near the strength that the Moon has every day of your life.

The only planet involved with Earthquakes is the one you're standing on. All talk of alignments are nonsense, even if all the planets were to align perfectly.

You can predict an Earthquake too, and you'd be correct 100% of the time as long as you didn't predict a location. The simple reason is that hundreds of Earthquakes are detected a day, with estimates of thousands having actually occurred. This is normal behavior for Earth, and has nothing to do with alignments.

Yes. Records go back for hundreds of years in many cases. Nothing on your list is 'abnormal', I've even got a paper published in the 1910s I think it was that records animals dropping dead out of the sky. These things happen all the time, but you only hear of those deemed newsworthy, and are arguably only hearing them because you're alert to this 2012 nonsense - if a doomsday in 2062 was 'predicted', would you still say all of these events were unnatural leading up to the 2060s, or would you forget all about them until 2061, and then start to be concerned?
we have been breaking records everywhere with all these disasters.
Not only do countless natural disaster records still stand, many with no chance of ever being beaten, it's an absolute certainly that, by definition, a record stands to be broken. That's what makes it a record. Would you still be in fear if the record broken was for least disasters per year? I'd argue that would be of more concern than a record for most disasters, we expect disasters to occur, that's all part of living here on Earth. An earthquakeless year would show something very wrong indeed, but an estimated half a million a year is normal, it's all we've known in our short time here.

Do the numbers of traffic accidents frighten you? The number of assaults, robberies, murders? I wouldn't be surprised to find out you're more likely to suffer at the hands of humanity, than at the hands of nature. But I'd also guess you're aware that these human events happen - while not nice events, you accept that it's part of life. The next step is to simply realize that earthquakes, floods, whathaveyou are just as common.

Spain is far from Italy. Well, not geographically speaking, but an earthquake in Spain has nothing to do with the geological activity in Italy. So any earthquake in Spain today is mere coincidence. :-D
Planetary alignments can't cause earthquakes, because their gravity effects on Earth are not enough to trigger an earthquake. Instead, the Moon can cause earthquakes, but they are too small to be felt.
