So ive been researching off this site for a while now, a couple months, and i just realized that there are so many more conspirators, than there are debunkers. As far as this website there ar maybe several hundered to maybe 2000 followers on here. As far as actual debunking proof, there is only astrogeek, and maybe several other very reliable debunkers on here. I understand that this SITE ITSELF is a debunker, but why doesnt it have as many followers and supporters as conspirator websites like ATS, and other sites even like youtube. On youtube I see way less debunking. as we are only 9 days untill my first real like debunking proof of doomsday, I really would like a large amount of feedback. Even like an example of Herold Camping, arent there a hell of a lot more people who belive in this guy than people who try to debunk him? Please reply if you understand of what I'm trying to get at. Also atatch links of other reliable debunking websites that can compete with the conspiritors' !
2012hoax.org was registered in 2009. ATS has been around for a decade or longer, and it covers every fantasy imaginable, not just 2012. Beyond that, some people tend to gravitate toward sensationalism, and I guess they find real science boring, or wouldn't recognize real science if it slapped them in the face.
Harold Camping is a crank. You don't see oodles of "debunking" on Camping because most people are well aware that he is a crank, or have never heard of him. If they do see the RV crew or some Internet disciple ranting and raving, they probably think, "Wow, sad," and that's about it. The people who come here afraid of Camping's prophetic fantasies are a minority.
Skeptics in general serve a reactionary role. It's far more time consuming to compile, research and address crap than it is to make it up in the first place. And it's far less glamorous to recite science on a white background than to publish a website with flashing banners and scary logos, replete with hysterical works of fiction disguised as fact and way too generous with exclamation mark usage.
Ergo, you're bound to see far more people spreading b.s. than debunking it. I think humanity has always been like that. The Internet just magnifies it.
How are people well aware that Camping is a crack nut? It is just frustrating when he makes the news, and then a couple days ago there was a story about his Rapture date, as well as Dec 21st 2012. Basicaly they said that neither were "something to lose your sleep over" well frankly Im going to if it was on the news. Also they said 3 things that could end the world were, Yellowstone, and two other things I can't remember. Is there a deffense to Yellowstone? I know I am rambling but I am skeptical about why so many people are worried about it. I just dont think there has ever been this many theories, some with evidence even if they have been debunked, that it seems so true. There are even redebunkers, who seem to be able to claim against the debunkers. Idk its all just like were are the positives right now? Economy is bad, war is bad, and I know that these things are about the same as usual, but still. Did people live in this kind of fear during the great depression? Everyhting is just nagative right now.
I don't know anyone who has even heard of Camping, except those here on the site and guests who come here and ask about him. As to how people know he is a crank, those who actually research his predictions find that all his previous predicted dates were false (3 dates in 1994, then 1995, and 1996). That's 5 times he has failed. Also, Camping himself says that the Bible is always right. How then does he explain that his predictions contradict the words of Jesus (in the Bible)? Jesus said that no one will know the date except God. So, he has been wrong repeatedly and he contradicts his own staement and Jesus. Without even going into his foolish numerology, he is already shown to be wrong.
There are few people (of those who know it's all nonsense) who will take the time and expend the effort to debunk this for the frightened people (especially kids) out there. We happen to think it's the right thing to do. We know we won't reach every one, but we're trying.
Re: Yellowstone. There is no reason to think it will have another caldera forming eruption within the next 90,000 years if ever. It has only had three of these super eruptions in the past. That means only two intervals to calculate an average time between them. You can't calculate a valid average from only two values, especially when the two are so widely separated. If we pretend that such an average is actually valid and apply it, that leaves us 90,000 years from even considering it due, much less overdue for a super eruption.
The most likely type of eruption is steam, and the next most likely is lava flow. A caldera forming eruption isn't even on the horizon for many millennia.
Wars and economic problems have occurred throughout history. During the Great Depression, people had real things to fear, such as not being able to feed their children. My mother told me about how Dad had been laid off from the railroad during the Depression. Each day, he would go out looking for work, if only enough to feed the kids that night. She would watch him walking back up the road, and could tell by his slumped shoulders that he hadn't found any work. She would go digging through the cupboards trying to find something, anything to make a meal. One day, she found an old withered potato way in the back of a cupboard. She used it to make potato soup for the whole family. They had 5 children at the time. Someone commented that Mom could make soup out of a rusty nail. That resulted in a long-standing family joke about Mom's nail soup.
The people going on about how terrible things are now have no idea what terrible is. They think they have it bad when their cell phone quits.
How are people well aware that Camping is a crack nut?
The same way they're aware that Marshall Applewhite was a cracked nut.
Basicaly they said that neither were "something to lose your sleep over" well frankly Im going to if it was on the news.
I can't imagine why.
Also they said 3 things that could end the world were, Yellowstone, and two other things I can't remember.
I don't know who "they" are, but the Yellowstone caldera can't end the world, even it blows, and there's no reason to think it will anytime soon.
I know I am rambling but I am skeptical about why so many people are worried about it.
Outside of Internet forums like this, I really don't see that many people giving a damn about Harold Camping. He's obviously a fraudster.
I just dont think there has ever been this many theories, some with evidence even if they have been debunked, that it seems so true.
There are no theories. I don't know even know what you're talking about. There are lots of claims, sure. Always have been, always will be.
There are even redebunkers, who seem to be able to claim against the debunkers.
Who? Where? There are always people who call us government plants, deniers, etc., but such claims hold no more weight than the original woo claims.
Economy is bad, war is bad, and I know that these things are about the same as usual, but still.
But still what, if all these things are business as usual?
Did people live in this kind of fear during the great depression?
I wasn't around, but my understanding is that it was absolutely miserable.
Everyhting is just nagative right now.
I think you're just looking for the negative.
People who do not care about 2012 > People who care and are scared > People who think it's a grand conspiracy > People who give their time to help debunk it all.
As the vast majority of the world are a) completely obvious to the nonsense claims that are made or b) simply don't care about them, what's left are pretty darn small groups.
There are a lot of reason for the allure of conspiracies. It's to the point where people who are irrationally attracted to them are considered mentally ill.
One thing is for sure, being a conspiracy theorist is easy. Being a debunker takes effort. The conspiracy theorist makes a grand claim based on one shred of weak evidence. To respond, a debunker often has to do significant research, and the final written response is many times as long as the conspiracy theorist's claim.
And god said that false prophets would mislead many
So in case of H.C
Look for that verse in the bible
No man knows the day nor the hour when the world will end.
Become a debunker and help out those that are being fed up with lies spread by False scientists going after you'r money.
Practice what you want to and dont give up on you'r dreams my dream is to become a basketball player 'NBA'
When I look at youtube, the comments that go against the doomsayers seem to have the highest votes. Make of that what you will.
Our fears are more numerous than our dangers, and we suffer more in our imagination than in reality.
When I look at youtube, the comments that go against the doomsayers seem to have the highest votes.
I can say this is not a tendence. Many videos on YouTube are full with scumbags, 2012ers, that receive very high votes. In general, the comments against 2012 claims are not deep debunkeries, but jokes and "God knows the day" (Yahoo! Answers-like).
