Do you think when may 21st and december 21st pass with nothing happening, people will open their eyes? They will realize these people making these claims are wackos and stop following them and work for real problems in this world. I know i was scared to when all these doomsday predictions entered my mind and they are slowly slipping away, i just hope once way date passes, the other will lose steam.
What do you think?
In a perfect world, yes. In our world, no=)
When May 21 comes and goes, or December 21 2012 for that matter, a new end-date will pop up and people will fall for that too. The thing is that medias role in doomsday prophecies and the spreading of those have become more and more apparent during the last couple of years and frankly I think we can expect quite a few 2012-scares in the future. I think the most important thing for each and everyone of us is to develop the skill of critical thinking, so that fewer and fewer will fall for sensationalistic crap brought forth by the media or nutjobs on the net.

Ik that will all happen as in a new date will appear, but lets say just our generation. (12 and over)
Do you think they will understand its a scam and is no need for anxiety or worry. That is my biggest concern, what the effect will be for many, many people's minds throughout and after the hoax.
To be honest, I have hoped for such a thing to happen. But let us be realistic:
(1) 2012 as a learning exercise will only work if the news agencies support discrediting it, and
(2) true believers will not change their minds.
The latter part seems nonsensical, but some of the 2012 believers are 2003 believers, which featured many of the same claims. Once true believers get to a certain point, no amount of reality seems to effect them. I don't know what to do for such people, other than recommend professional help, which they will not accept.
Most people believing 2012, are minors, people who doesnt remember dates like 1998, 2000 ect. Due to that fact, they have never ever tried seeing a doomsday pass by and be gone. People who has, are more likely to be like "aw god, not again.." Because doomsday are predicted so often, you would not believe it. Even HUGE events like 2012 are pretty often predicted. In 2000 we had Y2K, i personally dont remember it, i was 9 years old at the time, but my best friend remembers it. When i had a hard time about the whole 2012 stuff, she told me about Y2K, and told me how everybody freaked out, just like they do about 2012 now. The different from back then and now, is that the Internet has become bigger since 2000
Doomsayers has been along since ancient times. As long as there is people to make predictions, there will be people to believe it, and people to debunk it. The only thing you really can do, is choose whether or not you believe in these predictions.

I'm personally hoping for mass suicides.
What? I am. We could use a population culling.
Okay, no. Mass suicides wouldn't be good. But, you know, if people do commit suicide over this with so much substantial evidence against it… I wonder if the gene pool would be better off, you know?
So you mean that everyone that has fallen for this hoax because of mental illness or lack of knowledge should just kill themselfs right now? I myself has been having suicide thoughts for close to a year thanks to this combined with OCD/Anxiety and whatnot. So by your line of reasoning I should just kill myself here on the spot, alternatively feel guilty over this for the rest of my life? Statements like that makes me question why you are here to begin with? Do you get satisification in seeing other peoples struggle so you can pat yourself on the shoulder and say; "Ah, how stupid of them to let shit like this get to them. I for one is muuuuch smarter than that"?
Just asking…

Oh, Rickard. You've been here long enough to know exactly how I work. To even open up such an assault against my person is just showing a few hints of ignorance! Ah, but fear not. I am quite happy to answer your questions, regardless.
I am here as the last line of defense between Total Insanity and Total Sanity. When your approach of taking one's hand, gingerly stroking it, and whispering to them "Everything will be okay, honey." fails, I am right there to follow up. I will wield a bat, and smash them repeatedly over the head until the stupid is knocked out of them.
Now, before you say "That doesn't work!", I'd like you to take a brief history of /every single post I've contributed here/. I /have/ helped people, when everyone else failed. I /have/ knocked the stupid out of people, when no one else could.
Suicide is stupid, Rickard. Suicide is a stupid extreme. If someone is contemplating suicide, none of us, /none of us/, should get remotely involved with helping them. Period. End of discussion.
"Why", you ask? Because if they DO kill themselves, anyone here who tried to help them is subject to Manslaughter and 20 years in prison. You do NOT help a suicidal person with out a doctorate in psychology, or at least some form of medical degree.
Now, in response to your very first statement, "So you mean that everyone that has fallen for this hoax because of mental illness or lack of knowledge should just kill themselfs right now?", wrong.
Because you said it's a mix of OCD/Anxiety. Now, I don't know how OCD makes you suddenly believe in voodoo and supernatural forces, but I can buy anxiety having some pull in this. However, this further proves that these people do not need our help. They need professional help. They need to get off the freaking internet and go sit in a shrink's office.
And finally, if people refuse to help themselves, or get help? Maybe they're better off dead, Rickard. They'd at least stop suffering.
Quit being a martyr. It's immature and just as big a fantasy as 2012 is.
Now that's a mature answer if there ever was one. I'll agree to being a martyr if you admit to being a narcissist with grand delusions=)
Since you took the time to thoroughly adress my post I'll humor you with the same.

Nice touch with the bat-part, I'll give you that. And no, I don't think that though love is all that bad… When called for it might be one of the better approaches. But since you obviously don't know/care anything about fear caused by some sort of mental-illness I doubt that your 100% though love approach is the best advice. You might do more damage than necessary, but then again that's probably a consequence you already are aware of. Right? All I'm saying is that your redneck approach towards mental illness is ill-adviced, and many times uncalled for.
Now, before you say "That doesn't work!", I'd like you to take a brief history of /every single post I've contributed here/. I /have/ helped people, when everyone else failed. I /have/ knocked the stupid out of people, when no one else could.
Well, at the very least you're look on your contributions matches your ego. You've also managed to get a few warnings for your attitude towards people comming here scared half to death, but that part isn't as vital in this discussion, right?
Suicide is stupid, Rickard. Suicide is a stupid extreme. If someone is contemplating suicide, none of us, /none of us/, should get remotely involved with helping them. Period. End of discussion. I don't know why, but the old saying "ignorance is bliss" comes to mind. And no, I'm not debating wheter or not suicidal persons should be helped or not, I'm simply remarking on your stupidity comment. Do you think that anyone that contemplates suicide does so because they think it's the most logical way out of missery?
Because you said it's a mix of OCD/Anxiety. Now, I don't know how OCD makes you suddenly believe in voodoo and supernatural forces, but I can buy anxiety having some pull in this. For once I actually agree with you, and I've been saying the same thing to quite a few various posters here. For most people this place is great for finding answers about various claims made by doomsayers, but when it comes to people with mental illness in the picture then it's a whole other story. People like that, like me, need professional help… Not answers about crap theories found on the web. If you suffer from OCD you can be told a thing hundreds of times but that won't help, you're still going to have that nagging feeling in the back of your head.

I have minor OCD myself, and use to suffer from anxiety. In fact, as I've stated before, this 2012 nonsense /destroyed my future/ a few years back.
I literally lost just about everything, but managed to rip and claw my way right back out of Hell and to this logical standpoint I have now. No amount of tender love and care is what helped me. Kind words do not rip doubt out of you, Rickard. It only covers it up.
The only true way to get rid of it is in two ways. The first is to face your fears, but that's a year and a half from now and whoop whoop whoop.
The second is to have someone knock it out of you. That is how I finally got over it, and why I fight against it now. I use the same technique that worked on me, and has worked on others here, too.
You say it's an ego-trip, I say "Newsflash, Rickard; I've actually helped people here. You just copy/paste what someone else has already said a post or ten before you, with no results to show from it."
Your method does work at times. Of course it does! That's why it's done first. My method only works once your method fails, which is why it's so rare.
And yes, Rickard. I do believe people who contemplate suicide think it's the most logical way out of misery. And by logical I mean illogical. I stated clearly before the word INSANITY.
TL;DR - I'm as much a victim as anyone else here who constantly posts about their fears and dreads. Except, since I recovered, I know what works when all else fails. This is why my method always comes last, because it's a sure-fire way for some people to instantly begin to hate me.
However? I'll happily have martyr-syndrome individuals hate me, while I sleep happily at night knowing I just significantly made a difference, for the better, with someone.
Which I have done.
Numerous times.
On this very forum.
Go read.
You say it's an ego-trip, I say "Newsflash, Rickard; I've actually helped people here. You just copy/paste what someone else has already said a post or ten before you, with no results to show from it."
Care to point out one of those copy/pastes of mine? And while you're at it, would you care to point me in the direction of the threads were you made a difference/helped somebody? Neither the first, nor the latter should be all that hard to do. And when I say made a difference for somebody I don't mean according to you, but according to the people you "helped". Shouldn't be hard at all to find the vast amount of thank you's you've gotten during your stay here.
However? I'll happily have martyr-syndrome individuals hate me, while I sleep happily at night knowing I just significantly made a difference, for the better, with someone.
Sounds a bit like Virgin Mary there, don't you think? "Don't mind me, I'm just single-handedly saving the world from all evil"-undertone? Either way, if you make a difference then I'm all for it.
As for the rest of your post, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree;-)

Sorry, I'm not doing your homework for you. You're the one making baseless claims. I'll leave it at that.
While traditionally I should show my own evidence, my stance of 'do your own research' takes priority over my skeptic point of view.
TL;DR. Etc etc.
Sorry, I'm not doing your homework for you. You're the one making baseless claims. I'll leave it at that.
Baseless claims? I asked questions about YOUR claims. Like these:
Newsflash, Rickard; I've actually helped people here.
You just copy/paste what someone else has already said a post or ten before you, with no results to show from it.
I'll happily have martyr-syndrome individuals hate me, while I sleep happily at night knowing I just significantly made a difference, for the better, with someone.
So, your "do your own homework"-stance isn't realy valid here because all I ask for is some support of your claims… Or is it by any chance you that makes baseless claims/assertions?
Facts are stubborn things.

I'm simply under the impression that someone whom has been here as long as you have would have the knowledge to know my methods have worked.
Furthermore, there's another issue with me finding 'evidence' to support my claims; I'm not able to become a Wikidot user. As such, I can't simple find my posts as easily as you or anyone else could find your own, or mine.
Thusly, what could literally take me the better part of a day, could be done by you in a fraction of the time.
So, with this in mind, either do your own homework, or take my word for it. Regardless, I don't even need /my word/. There's plenty of people here who know my method has worked. You can ask anyone. Even the people who utterly hate me KNOW I've helped people.
And thusly, I'm done with this conversation. Again, better part of a day not worth what time I have to spare.
My opinion is that as long as people understand that 2012 claims are BS and it's a hoax, fine. We are different from each other and we should respect how each user debunks the same hoax. Some will be harsh and sarcastic, other will have a little more patience.
It costs nothing to be more open to the differences.

After Y2K, I am not sure. Maybe. God knows if they'll stop, and the claims will be just "stardust". Nibiru will burn up, a pole shift rescheduled, Yellowstone will be covered, Apophis diverted and the solar flares suddenly frozen.
