i read you'r youtube page but im freaked out i saw some guy named russel post on the discussions section with a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSmHWyWx-r4&feature=related

please help me im having trouble explain how it is fake

im not scared but i want you guys to explain plz

Aside from all the physics we've talked about dozens if not hundreds of times on this board, the South Pole Telescope (SPT) is a radio telescope. It doesn't take photographs. The video is a hoax.

The video claims that the picture (of a reddish object on a black background) is a picture of the sky taken in January at the South Pole.
There is the minor detail that in January at the South Pole, there is 24/7 daylight.
These hoaxers don't have more than a couple of brain cells to rub together between them.

This video is pure fake.
No planets look like that through a telescope.

I think what worries him or what worries us in fact is that russell happens to be looking at this in the night for a long time and it coincides with what he saw in the video. And russell is very confident that what he is seeing isn't Jupiter as he knew it.

An analogy example: 'we can distinguish an apple from an orange, if u give me an apple and tell me it's an orange I definitely won't buy that story'

I believe what Russell is trying to say is something like this. He has his doubts that it was Jupiter he was seeing as he knew Jupiter ain't looking like this until he saw the video and voila! That was what exactly he has been looking at and tracking in the night.

So this kind of definition from Russell worries us apart from the video being a hoax.

I hope I did explain this correctly.

That old chesnut. People can be as confident as they want, it doesn't make them right. Do you know Russell? Is he a scientist or astronomer? Why not listen to the confidence of people like TheGreatJuju and 3WMElliot? They both clearly know what they are talking about and they have both told you Russell is looking at a photoshoped video.

Oh please. These sort of tales have been around for years, it's nothing new. The video of an "alien" in Siberia is clearly a hoax. Note the fact only half of it's body has snow on it. If this "alien" had been there during a heavy snowfall, which the video makers claim, it would be completely submerged.

Do planets blinks when looked at in the night?
I stay in Singapore now is about 820pm 20th may 2011, I saw a blinking light up in the sky I know that isn't a star, it's blinking very brightly, can anyone tell me can it be a planet I am seeing? And does planet blink? As I always though a planet does not blink and it's just one bright spot in the sky.

Anything in the sky can "blink." It's due to the fact that you're looking through about 100 kilometers of atmosphere.

At 8:20 PM from Singapore, you would have seen multiple bright objects to your west. These include Procyon (apparent magnitude 0.37), Sirius (-1.47), Betelgeuse (0.43), Canopus (-0.63) and Rigel (0.15). If I had to hazard a guess, I would say you saw Sirius or Canopus.

Planets do not tent to blink. That is how I know some bright light is a planet.

"Twinkle twinkle little star" isn't taken out of thin air, the song goes like that because stars tend to twinkle (some in red, green and various colors).
