I just want to ask this question to get other peoples opinions on it. When is it ok to get tough, you know, like start telling people they are being stupid etc. We have been through at least 5 months of religious crap due to Harold campings nonsense, there's a thread with almost 1500 posts and that's not to mention the countless other threads created specifically for campings garbage. The "predicted" date has come and gone with nothing happening even remotely close to what camping predicted, yet people are still worried, they are still coming here and saying things like "I know he was wrong, but what if he isn't next time" and that sort of thing.
We have seen multiple instances of people coming here with link after link from sites like ATS and godlikeproductions and pleading for help. Now, don't get me wrong, I have sympathy with an accidental encounter with sites like this (indeed that's how I first became fearful of this hoax myself) and I'll try my best to help someone in that very situation, as I know how they feel. But when it becomes repeatadive, when they come here with something from ATS that scares them, it gets dealt with here, and they shoot off back to ATS for another dose of nonsense induced fear, should our sympathy remain the same? These people claim anxiety or OCD are the reason they do this, but iv suffered anxiety as iv mentioned numerous times here, and the only thing I ever obsessed over was the thing telling me not to worry.
I raise this subject because Astrogeek made a good point in a previous thread, that trolls may come here looking to rile us up and prevoke a reaction, then run off and point out how mean everyone here is. So I ask again, when do we stop holding hands and start making fists? Tough love never done me any harm in my worst episodes of anxiety, in fact I appreciated being told I was being silly. Sorry for the long post but like I said I'd just like to know where other people stand on this.
Thanks.
The great thing about science is, it's true whether you believe in it or not.
