Anyone else concerned with NASA ending their space program? My friend said It is almost like they know something. They might be thinking why bother sending anything up there if the world is ending or something is on its way here.
They are stopping the shuttle program, nothing else. They are out of money, as is everyone right now. They are ending the area of 5 very very old shuttles that would be to expensive to repair and send back, so they decided to make new ones. Cheaper more efficient ones that will arrive in the future.
They are NOT ending the "space program". They are stopping the use of the current shuttles because they are not economical. Take a look at the following link, ( http://en.rian.ru/science/20110525/164213545.html ), and you will see that they are moving on to different more economical shuttles and are wanting to focus on deep space exploration, because there is a lot we can learn from it. Another thing is, if what you say was true than wouldn't they bring everybody back from the ISS? They aren't and we are in fact just having to either A. Catch a ride with the Russians or B. Rely on private contractors.

You need to tell your friend that he or she is completely and utterly wrong, and needs to get his or her information from reliable sources instead of crank websites. As others have told you already, the U.S. space program is not ending.
They have set Project Constellation aside for a few years because of lack of funding. That is the program that will take us back to the Moon and eventually to Mars. They are not ending the space program.
The thought of both the moon and Mars is exciting if you ask me, I would love to be able to go there!

Me too, although I know I'll never get there. I just hope to live long enough to see us get to Mars. I thought there was a good chance of seeing it happen until they put it off. They were talking about sometime after 2040. Now I don't know when to think it will happen.
I was so excited watching the views from the rovers. I was actually seeing the surface of Mars at ground level!
They are out of money, so they had to stop some shuttles because they were not very economical. NASA was losing money. I'm sure it was the best thing to do in this situation. Better than lead NASA to complete bankruptcy.
Im somewhat happy that im not the only one who thought this, and i am happy that people in here become aware before the woos starts screaming.
But you gotta ask your self, if they really where stopping the whole thing, would they post stuff like this on their webpage? Also, remember the spacecraft on it's way to pluto! It should arrive in 2015 if i remember correct? None the less, it's out there flying around right now.

oh and one more thing: If the world really was going to end, i dont think they would even care to end the shuttle program in such a fine way.

Like everyone else already said, they are not shutting down NASA.
They are getting rid of the shuttle fleet - an aging and increasingly dangerous piece of technology.
What I've seen, the next generation manned space travel by NASA will be a some sort of mixed approach; they will outsource some of the space launches to private companies (like SpaceX), and they will also design new manned spacecraft, but they will not be in the shuttle form factor, but capsules, like in the 1960's.

Project Constellation, which has been delayed a few years, is to use a modular spacecraft, the Orion. It has separate modules for crew and supplies, and uses an Ares launch vehicle. These were in the testing stages when the project was put off due to funding cuts.
