I always had such aniexty about this 2012 thing but this site has calmed my fears and then last week in MA. we had unbelievable weather. 7 tornadoes touched down. I have lived in MA. my entire 34 years and I dont ever remember storms like that. Kinda makes me think…
What if… Any thoughts?
What if what?
Hi Mary;
I live in California, and we're having one of the wettest springs in many years, after one of the wettest winters in many years.
However, this does not tie in with 2012. Climate (the 'long term weather') changes over time. Patterns that we are familiar with will change, and areas that were dry decades or centuries ago will get wet, and areas that were wet will dry out. This has been going on for as long as there has been liquid water on the Earth. Global Climate Change (e.g., Global Warming) also has a long term effect here, as do shorter term trends such as the El Nino and La Nina phenomena.
I've said elsewhere, somewhere in the world, right now, a weather related record is falling. It is either the hottest, coldest, wettest, driest day in (n) years, or in recorded history. It's a big planet, with lots of different weather systems going on simultaneously. The weather in the atmosphere is tied to the 'weather' occurring in the oceans (e.g., ocean currents), and those in turn can be affected by the amount of fresh water running off of the continents or the melting of the polar ice.
So, it happens. It's been happening forever. At some times in history there was very little polar ice. At other times it would have been difficult to find open water. Don't worry about it, it doesn't mean anything in the short term. Long term, you should be thinking about conservation efforts, and ways that we can reduce the impact that humans are having on the planet.

Hi Mary,
Here's some information about tornadoes in Massachusetts:
"Compared with other States, Massachusetts ranks number 35 for frequency of Tornadoes, 16 for number of deaths, 21 for injuries and 12 for cost of damages. When we compare these statistics to other States by the frequency per square mile, Massachusetts ranks, number 14 for the frequency of tornadoes, number 1 for fatalities, number 1 for injuries per area and number 1 for costs per area. Based on data from 1950 - 1995.
On June 9, 1953 one of the most powerful tornadoes yet recorded struck Worcester the official recorded deaths by NOAA indicate 90 people died."
Massachusetts had 135 tornadoes between 1950 and 1995. There were 10 in 1956, 7 in 1957, and 12 in 1958.
As you can see, this is nothing new. It is just less frequent than in the plains states and the south. We will continue to have tornadoes every year as we have had throughout history. There is no reason to link it to a bogus doomsday.
What if it really was coming to the end.
Because of bad weather? Sorry, I just can't get my head around that. Weather trends up and down, I'm sure having tornados and other severe weather can be pretty traumatising, I don't get any of these things were I live, it just rains constantly, so you have my sympathy in that regard. But really, how can bad weather be a sign of the end of the world?
The great thing about science is, it's true whether you believe in it or not.
Sup , I Am Awesomeee , anyways thinking about the weather I have made this page: http://www.2012hoax.org/weather-and-2012 If you read it im pretty sure youl understand that weather is normal.

I read some of the stories on it. In most of them meteorologists(sp) state that though tornadoes there are rare, they are not in any way unique for that area. A good site for getting info on tornado history is tornadohistoryproject.com (sorry, don't know how to make links on my phone). After you find your state, go to the tables tab and look at the data. In MA, I saw many dates that had more than one tornado touch down. This just shows that in the past it has happened where multiple tornadoes touched down on the same day which means that happening is not that extraordinary. Also, visit the national weather service page. You will find lots of useful info there.
What if it really was coming to an end is a silly question. My husband had to explain it to me before I really got it. Yeah, it could be the end for any one of us next December 2012, but not from what the doomsayers are saying will happen. I think all the scared people need to put it into perspective. How could the world end in so many different ways? It is impossible! It took me a while to understand that but when I finally did, my anxiety was gone. Some of the world will die next December 2012, but it will be from accidents or other things not related to planets, asteroids, or any of that other junk.
Hope this has helped, Mary!
