So, I'm looking to buy a new car in the near future and thought I would ask if anyone has any advices on this. What I'm looking at buying is some performance car (Japanese or German) but kind of lack experience in that department, so if anyone have any experience of the Japanese Nissan Skyline (R34), Mitsubishi Evo, Subaru Impreza or the German BMW M3 or similar cars, any recomendations would be greatly appreciated. Right now I'm leaning towards either the Skyline or the M3, but since I don't know much about how they run I'm a little hesitant towards a buy. So, any experiences or thoughts about those cars are greatly appreciated=)

I am a casual race fan, and I usually perform my own basic automotive maintenance, but I really wouldn't hold my own too well in any conversation with genuine car people. Conceptually and based on observation (not personal experience), I absolutely adore the Skyline R34 and the newer GT-R line. Something in that vein is on my short list should I ever spring for that breed of performance car.

I can say from personal experience that the R34 handles beautifully in Need for Speed: Shift, but that's as close as I've ever gotten to driving one.

Ahh, the GT-R as of 2007 wouldn't be all that bad. Except for the prize that is=) Haha, the funny thing is that my foundness for the Skyline is based on almost the same "experiences" of the car, I.e. video games. I figured if it kicks that much a** in video games, then it probably is quite a good car in reality. Albeit not the best reference frame, I still think it's a valid one=P

Between the M3 and Skyline you are looking at power over luxury when choosing the Skyline. The Skyline as far as I can tell has more customization and tuning capabilities than the M3 and has more power. The thing you get with the M3 is obviously a more sophisticated car with that wonderful German quality. You are going to end up paying a pretty penny on that Skyline, because of the cult following it has and most of them are probably going to be tuned and built up, kind of like if you were trying to buy a Supra. The M3 I have found a lot at reasonable prices, so that is something to consider if you aren't wanting to dump a lot of money into a car.

Absolutelly, the Skyline is the car I'm leaning the most towards. Mainly because of the quite extreme engine (at least in the GT-R) but also because of the looks. The thing that has me a little ambivalent towards it is the fact that it's hard to find a Skyline that isn't customized beyond recognition, which in my eyes is a bit of a warning sign when it comes to how well stuff holds together. The M3 I've been looking at in the first place is the E46 version (CSL), which means about 360 bhp. That would be enough power to have some fun on tracks etc, and better yet you wouldn't have to sacrifice ride comfort=) But then again, it aint a Skyline=)

Yeah but it is a BMW, who is legendary for quality and lasting mechanical structure/powertrain. They also handle like a dream and take corners like a pro.
