Welcome to Science, where if you say you know everything you are most certainly wrong.
We're only now able to study the Sun in detail, before we had to observe from afar and infer what we thought was going on. Now we can peer into the Sun almost, we can observe it in ways our eye's will never be able to see, we can see it from angles that are impossible to be seen from Earth, and like all good science, we still haven't got our heads around it.
What'll be good if you ever come across people claiming this to have been predicted or to be a sign of the end times is to ask them "Why didn't you tell us before this article came out? Why didn't you say what was going to happen so that we could look for it and test your claim?" You'll quickly find that, seemingly as always, proponents of doom just jump on news articles of vague relation to their fantasy. We shall have to see how and if this particular one develops.
