I heard that the Maya people that are still around are laughing at the people who claim that the end of the calendar means something. Is that true. If it is than that's funny!

There is a very good website here that deals with what the Maya really say about 2012. You will find that nothing these hoaxers claim the Maya say is actually true. Remember, the whole 2012 nonsense was born due to the apparent ending of their calendar and an end of the world prediction they made. You'll find that the calendar doesn't end at all and there is no such prediction. I found that the second you accept those facts, the 2012 hysteria looks completely silly.

about the mayaindians i think they are realy cool indians , they where wery good on astronomi that i know but how can they no so much about astronomi? they dont have the eccuipments and things astronoms have in this times so how could they be so god? people allso say that they predectid the tsunami in thailand and eartquacke in japan tex but is that only hoax allso?

The Maya were good astronomers, but for their time, but they weren't the best. Other ancient civilizations like the Babylonians, Greeks and Egyptians were comparatively better.

People say the Maya predicted all kinds of things. In reality, they didn't predict anything.

No light-pollution and tons of free time means that even farmers and children would know every dot of light on the sky at night.

Couple that with a belief of Sun Gods and so on, and watching the skies in the hopes of learning from or appeasing the Gods makes astronomy 'the done thing'.
