i mean i think there's another one for 2039 or somewhere close to that cause of a coment called apothes or apothis i dont know the spelling is going to swing by earth in 2025 and it's going to orbit back around and smack us in 2039? i mean this was a history channel program i saw but i mean come on! this is getting rather ridiculous…i feel rather SAD that the history channel which i always used to watch for good astronamy topics is being reduced to this smut and garbage…i'm ashamed that this is what some of the most logical channels have been reduced to..but aside from that what are your plans for this website after 2012 passes? i mean there's always going to be ANOTHER prediction people are going to worry on and we need alot more people like you to stop the panic..and it's reassureing being able to come to the website and see the facts

Well, the Apophis thing, although mostly unlikely, is a real possibility for 2036. However, we'll know as soon as 2029 if it's coming towards us and we'll be able to try and change its path.

We'll very probably know in the next couple of years. The answer will almost certainly be 'No'.
I'll have to amend the article to make that clear.
I'm sure the History Channel will be disappointed.

LOL On Sunday night, I came across a National Geographic documentary on asteroids, with an all-to-real (to my liking) simulation of what it'd be like if an asteroid like Apophis was to hit San Francisco. *Shivers*

agh correction not comment asteroid* a little mistake in my spelling but yeah it's not a rather large asteroid and we can almost certainly divert it's path

Apophis is only about 330 meters (1000 ft) in size. Even if it somehow beat the astronomical odds against it and moved to a collision course, and we weren't able to divert it, it wouldn't be a doomsday event. We would have plenty of time to evacuatwe the areas if necessary.

not to mention how much it would be withered coming into our atmosphere the heat would certainly wither it down about 100 meters or so
