James Michaelis, 99942 Apophis is currently almost certain to miss, and observations over the next few years will probably bring this to certainty. Like Alene says, there are everyday things thousands of times more likely to kill you than an asteroid, and many of those you actually have some control over. And that 1 in 250,000 chance of impact is just that — the chance of impact, not the chance of it killing you. It isn't big enough to cause a global extinction event, only regional damage, and obviously we'd have ample time to get people out of possible target zones. I mean, here we are talking about it more than two decades before closest approach. Focus your energy elsewhere, like staying in shape, eating right and making sure your kids do the same.
