(I did not like that Pluto got demoted from being a planet, because I grew up with Pluto as a planet.)
I sort of agree nostalgically, but the IAU definition is, I think, a fair attempt. It isn't perfect, but it essentially "works" for our Solar System. Classifying certain celestial objects will probably be a contentious area for centuries to come, particularly as technology lets us discover more.
