I may have jumped the gun on this topic; it doesn't seem to be as pressing as I had thought, as most of the discussions I saw were taking place back in 2010. In addition, I haven't seen anything in this forum about it, so again, it's probably not a very pressing issue.
That said, for the purpose of entertainment, I provide the following:
.
This is the article that seems to have spurred all the discussion:
(please excuse the crudity of my links… I am not allowed to post links as of yet…)
weeklyworldnews.com/headlines/15077/earths-rotation-slowing/
Yeah, yeah, I know, it's the Weekly World News, i.e., the POS tabloid that sits in the rack at the grocery store next to the National Enquirer, considered a legitimate source of information by those who have allowed themselves to be dumbed down.
The geophysicist mentioned in the article is Joseph Jankowski, but I haven't done a lot of digging to find out who he is, or if he even exists.
.
Here's one discussion of the above article, and as you'll see, most of the people discussing this have little to no knowledge of much of anything:

.
If you read through that discussion, however, you'll find that the very same story (only dates were changed) has been run at least 2 other times in the past (1997 and 2000):

The following article was written by someone who obviously knows nothing whatsoever about the "leap second." See the section in this article called, "The great slowdown"
www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3077334/ns/technology_and_science-science/t/strange-twists-our-spinning-planet/
.
And then there's this guy, who also doesn't understand what the leap second is:

And of course, Yahoo! Answers is ALWAYS an EXCELLENT place to get answers, right?

There's more, but again, perhaps it's not worth the time… unless, of course, it should start to become an issue again…
