"Professor" James McCanney has been making some rather scary predictions regarding comet C/2012 S1. So I've started a page on him. I'm not sure whether he actually qualifies as a "2102 proponent", but he's certainly a cosmophobia proponent, with his "electric comets as big as planets" crap, his book "Surviving Planet-X Passage" and his survival equipment business.

I get the feeling McCanney is going to milk this comet for all it's worth over the coming year.

Yes, I knew that this comet was going to attract the doomsday nuts - just like Elenin. These people can't predict anything, but their crazy ideas can certainly be predicted.

No doubt the NASA/JPL Small-Body Browser will be brought into play to try and link earthquakes with various alignments between Earth, Sun and comet. If I remember rightly, we can expect the first of these on or about January 11th, 2013, thus soon after the Big 2012 Fail.

Starting this coming week McCanney will be featured on a History Channel six part Special entitled "Countdown to Apocalypse".

I wonder will the Hysterical channel repeat these programmes after nothing has happened?

The fact that he's openly selling survival equipment and for-profit books should be a REAL big tip-off as to his credibility and true intentions. Just another con artist looking to cash in on the all-powerful fear factor.

People like that disgust me. No wonder why people are scared; because these dumbasses want to make money out of nothing. Simply because they've got nothing better to do.

I think that's quite literally the case. They aren't qualified or capable to do anything better. If they took some meds and put this much energy into real science they could be quite useful. But they gotta make money some how, and when the only thing you're smart enough to do is lie, well..

James McCanney is a physics crank, and the originator of the pseudoscientific 'electric universe' idea.

Those words are not on our page, and are inaccurate anyway since he did not originate the electric universe theory, being mostly involved with the "electric comets" part.

Maybe this was from a previous edition. Check the history of McCanney page.
Either way, Google has its little bugs, and sometimes they put a wrong quote on the search results.

Weird. That's the quote that shows in the search results, if you bring up the little page snapshot it shows the correct quote.

I would've said it was probably an older version of the page too, but I see you're the author of that page and it's less than two weeks old!

Very odd.

Edit: Wait, was there a page there before? Google says that particular result was from the 15th of October.
