A question that I have been thinking about ever since reading up about the recent melting of the Arctic ice. Sure when one hears about the Arctic melting, they think about the usual hype over sea level rise and worse weather, but a new thing has entered the Global Warming field which is that of the methane stored in hydrates and in the Arctic permafrost.
According to a blog that names itself Arctic News the astronomical melting of the Arctic sea ice along with the melting of the glaciers on Greenland bring about the risk of releasing the methane stored in these hydrates and permafrost (as a result of albedo loss which invokes a positive feedback) and once the methane reaches the atmosphere there is the risk that it will heat the earth to an extent that it will result in Runaway Global Warming, earth becoming like Venus. A very scary scenario as it basically means that as soon as the Arctic ice melts, the methane will be released and everyone will be cooked to death a day or two after this event.
The reason I picked summer 2013 also is that I get the impression that as a result of the record melt and the fact that during late November the nothern portion of Greenland measured 26 degrees Celsius, I feel that one may as well give up hope for the Arctic recovering at all.
I might be up ticking the whole thing, but this factor has been on my mind since August so I wanted to know what the folks of 2012Hoax, the seemingly most patient people on this earth, think about this.
