Summary:

Scientists, have discovered a planet with conditions that could support life., orbiting a sun that is visible to the naked eye, The world is one of 5 thought to be circuling Tau Ceti, a star 12 light years away which is alost identical to the sun. Its six times bigger than earthand one of them, with 5 times the earths mass, lies in the stars "habitable zone"

I think it is because it said visible to the naked eye Odo, I was on a panick last night as well after i read about the history channel. we have flood warnings in place in the uk yellow today amber tomorrow :(

I think they meant visible to naked eye as in one of the stars in the night sky. It is raining and snowing where i am, and really windy, normal weather, your fear is trying to connect everything as a sign, you need to relax

The star the planet is orbiting is visible to the naked eye, not the planet itself. Think about it this way, if you were standing on this newly discovered planet you'd see our sun looking like a point of light, just the way stars look to us. You wouldn't see earth or any of the other planets, just the sun as one little point of light. These things are no cause for concern, planets are discovered in other star systems all the time. They will never come anywhere near earth or even close to our solar system. Don't worry about this type of thing.

How many earth years is 12 light years Odo? and what is the "Goldilocks zone"? the article from sky news goes planetry objects have been discovered more than 800 planets behind our sun since the 1990s those found around nearest the sun are more interesting to astronomers. That article is nothing to fear, its just about other planets orbiting another sun, very far away. wont cause any harm to us
