http://www.samaritans.org/ - Samaritans provide a listening ear service for anyone who is in emotional distress or suicidal. I have used them on a couple of occasions due to personal problems in my life. They don't give advice or tell you what to do, they are there to listen if you need to sound off, but if you have harmed yourself, they can help you call for help.
http://www.mind.org.uk/ - Mind is the UK's leading charity for anyone with a mental health problem or concern, whether it's diagnosed, temporary or long term. Mind can provide support via a helpline, email service or depending on what is available in your area, a face to face counseling service.
http://www.childline.org.uk/Pages/Home.aspx - Childline is there for all young people experiencing anything from fear, depression, mental illness, family problems, abuse, bullying and all kinds of issues pertaining to under 18s.
http://www.nopanic.org.uk/ - NoPanic supports people who experience panic attacks and anxiety.
http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/ NHS direct can provide medical advice on all kinds of health related issues, including mental health issues such as panic, anxiety and feeling suicidal. They can help you decide if you need emergency medical care. Using NHS direct is simple, you phone up, speak to an operator who will ask you some personal questions, but this is to make sure they find the right person to phone you back. A few minutes later, a fully qualified nurse will phone you back and help you with your problem. I have used NHS direct on many occasions for my hubby, who has a spinal condition and sometimes experiences a great deal of pain. Sometimes you might have to hold, but your call will be taken by the next available operator. They can advise you on your closest A&E, NHS walk-in center or access to other out of hours services such as out of hours GP services or late night chemists etc. They will also help point you to the service you need for your issue.
Also your GP (primary care doctor) can provide access to services available on the NHS such as counseling, therapy such as CBT or psychotherapy or medication if they feel this may help you.
You can also talk to someone your trust about your fears, whether that is someone on this site, a parent, a friend, a partner, a teacher etc.
Most schools, colleges and universities in the UK have access to a counselor, if you feel this would help you, talk to your parents or a teacher/tutor about it.
The most important thing to do if you feel like harming yourself, is to STOP AND THINKitalic text. Please ask yourself why you feel this way, what made you feel this way? Is it something you read? Where did you read it? Is it something you saw on TV, perhaps on the discovery channel or the history channel, which are both renound for spewing out doomsday crap.
Then you must share your problem with someone else who you trust. Don't expose it on social networks as you may receive replies which are also based on false information, and may only land up making you feel worse.
I must admit to having had a few 'moments' myself, sometimes over my hubby's health as he has undergone a major spinal operation in November last year (2011) and has been left with Cauda Equina syndrome, which is a rare spinal disorder caused by two herniated spinal discs hitting a group of nerves in his lower spine, and everything got to me then. I have a diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome which causes me several social deficits. Just say I have had to learn social skills the very hard way, what may come naturally to some, does not to me!.
Nothing is going to happen on Friday, anyone is welcome to PM me if they have a specific concern surrounding this hoax as the hoax comes to an end, not the world.
Earth is a beautiful planet, everyday I wake up and I thank nature for the weather that day, albeit rain, ice, snow, sun or just dull lol, and for providing me a planet that has a biosphere which can sustain humans and other living things. This world is still young, we are evolving, we are amazing creatures, we've been here over 200,000 years and we are not going anywhere soon! :)
I hope this post is ok, I'm pointing out UK specific sites as I am in the UK. Similar services are available in the US and other countries too. If you need help finding a specific service, I will be much obliged to help.
Peace,
Chez.
