Spaceweather.com says the sun sports are not flaring, but frothing?
I don't really understand what that is, so naturally since it's something I don't understand it is worrying me.
Does anyone know anything about this phenomenon and is it normal?
It's common. Spaceweather's shown it lots of times that I remember in the last year.
I have been completely fine and functioning all day and then I see this. I stupidly googled sun froth and even more stupidly clicked on a forum on god like productions. Before I clicked I knew I wasn't going to see anything positive but once on there found a link yo NASAs website which explained how these "bubbles" are a someone new discovery (2009). They go on to say that they don't know if the froth is beneficial or not. So anyway, there went my confidence that I'd live to see Saturday.
Ugh, I'm really sorry for posting it then. Last thing I want to do is scare anyone at all :(
I too saw the thread on godlikeproductions when I googled it and that's what made me more nervous and wanting to see it debunked.
It's good to see that it seems to be at least a fairly common occurence.
[Edit] I actually went back and read that NASA article and it seems to me that they are talking about froth not ON the sun but in the farthest parts of our solar system. It doesn't seem like something to be concerned about just something very far away that they don't totally understand yet.
Yes and although I'm more worried than I've been, on Space Weather they said its on the side of the sun that's not facing earth. I have no clue if that matters at all but it did calm me a little.
And it's not too much of a concern.
I noticed that too. already people posting about that -.-

Godlikeproductions blocks me from even viewing their site, but you'll probably want to read this earlier post made here.

ah yes it says
"MAGNETIC FROTH: Sunspot AR1598 has quieted down since unleashing an X1-class solar flare on Oct. 23rd. It might be the calm before the storm. The sunspot is still large and apparently potent, as shown in this image captured by amateur astronomer Sergio Castillo of Inglewood,California:"
The people at godlikeproductions are nothing but mentally ill idiots.
that quote is not from godlikeproductions. it is from http://spaceweather.com/archive.php?view=1&day=25&month=10&year=2012
Oh, okay thanks for pointing that out. Sorry about that.
Ive only been to spaceweather vvveeerrrrryyy recently, so I personally know how often they've seen or mentioned sun frothing, but I do see and know theyre very clearly not worried about it at all.
Are you saying that you have or haven't seen it on the website before now?
Oops. Meant to say don't know.. forgot the don't. Either way they've been around. Nothings happened obviously. It says very slight chance of solar flares which constantly happen throughout every year.
Here's from 9 months and 2 months ago on Spaceweather on magnetic froth —

The same words Magnetic Froth are used for the cool magnetic bubbles discovered by Voyager a while back at the outer limits of the Solar System. That's what's got the godlikeproductions guys confused.
Ive just done a little research. Yes, Its definitely happened before, I saw them AFTER solar flares(which are harmless). The froth doesnt necessarily mean anything really, but it guarantees a nice photogenic sunspot!(Thats from Spaceweather) So, in other words, its nothing new or anything to be frightened of by any means… just helps photographers see sunspots better when it happens.
And this process actually sounds pretty cool, not anything for us to be concerned about ;).
first of all, that was from october 25th so something wouldve happened already
Second of all, there has been no concern from nasa or space science
third of all, there will be no "explosion", but maybe a solar flare
fourth, if a solar hit us, it would have no affect on you other than google might be down
lastly, don listen to godlike productions
