Hello,
Not intended to cause concern to others, I have also been dealing with this fear for 3 years, but I have just heard that we are now in 'Galactic Fluff', and that the sun will be active in the next coming days.
I wondered if anyone could explain what it means please?
I've tried researching it, but I can't find a lot to be honest.
Thanks
but I have just heard that we are now in 'Galactic Fluff'
We're currently inside the Local Interstellar Cloud, or 'Local Fluff', and have been for anywhere from 50 to 150,000 years. Have you noticed? Didn't think so. It's a region of space that's dustier/cloudier than the rest, and by dusty we still mean insanely empty (the cleanest hospital operating theatres are dustier than space).
and that the sun will be active in the next coming days.
The Sun is always active, there are just times where it's busier or quieter than other times. We aren't heading for anything major or even interesting over the next coming days - just a single 1% chance of a high class solar flare. And you wouldn't notice that coming towards you either, unless you were actively on the lookout for it's effects.
Thank you very much :)
So what Dr Paul LaViolette said is just common knowledge then! :-/
One man's common knowledge is another man's springboard for a wacky claim. You can make something sound as horrible or threatening as you'd like, that doesn't change the facts. Kittens are fierce creatures capable of slashing and cutting and tearing into your flesh. They're also small enough to scoop up in one hand and they fall asleep often. Hardly monstrous, are they?

21 Dec came and went, and you still think that this is something scary?
It is the same people that failed the doomsday!!! Why are you not laugh at these people?
The sun is always active, hence why there is life on Earth. The star goes through cycles every 11 years where sunspot activity peaks and falls. The sun is just coming into solar max, which happens every 11 years, which is when the star is at it's most active, and produces the most sunspots. This has little impact, if any on the Earth, as Earth has a magnetic shield called the Magnetosphere, which protects the planet from the solar wind, which is radioactive particles which the sun gives off all the time. The worse effect felt by the sun recently was cancellation, as a sheer precaution, of flights which were routed directly over the Earth's poles. This is because at these high points of the planet, a tiny bit more solar radiation sometimes gets through the shield, and can effect aircraft's navigation systems. It was not done due to a direct and undoubted risk, but rather as a precaution, because in aviation, you can't take any risks. All in a day's work for a pilot though, nothing out of the ordinary.

Solar wind particles are not "radioactive" they are just ordinary protons and electrons mostly, with a smaller number of ions such as Helium.
Earth's protection is not only from it's magnetosphere but also from it's thick atmosphere.
And Paul La Violette is a crackpot who believes physics is encoded in Tarot cards.
