This website is living its last days, to make room for another brand new website that will have almost the same purpose as this one, but without an specific claim attached to it. While this site is about 2012, the new one will be about general doomsday claims.
The new one will be announced after Christmas, according to Astrogeek.
That is why people are leaving this one. :-)
Do we need to say our goodbyes? Or are we all going to still be part of the "new" website?
No, no goodbyes required. the website will be open to everyone who is now part of this site, so you will be able to go there to see how things are going or even to become a member. :-)
How will I know who is who if they change their username?
I think it will be hosted on Wikidot as well, so we can all use these same accounts on Astrogeek's new site. Unless someone wants to change the username for some reason, you will recognize everyone here.
