I heard that it has been confirmed that rapid pole shifts is possible and that in a year its declined about 53 something, i found that on this site, a link, but i couldnt read the whole article because i had to pay for it, is this really possible? and how long do we have left before it happens?
That's not how the world works. Rapid pole shifts are absolutely not possible. And it hasn't been confirmed. Read this website on why. It's listed under the navigation menu on why.
I'd definitely believe an article you have to pay for in order to finish reading it.
It was a footnote source thingy on the "magnetic pole shift" category on the left
53 as in degrees? Pole shifts can't just "happen" like that, It takes multiple years for such a process to occur.
Rapid poll shifts just are not scientifically possible. They take hundreds to thousands of years to complete, and the worst that is going to happen is true north will become south so residents in a few thousand years will have to adjust their compasses. there is NO scientific basis to believe a rapid poll shift would actually happen.
"1. There is some evidence that geologic magnetic fields can change rapidly, perhaps within a matter of a few years, but that is not the general opinion at this time. [3][4]"
That's what it said in the footnotes in the "Magnetic Pole Shift" category on the left, so i dunno..
It would have no noticeable impact on people, except for the changing of compasses. Regardles, pole shifts take thousands of years.
"In popular literature, many conjectures have been suggested involving very rapid polar shift. A slow shift in the poles would display the most minor alterations and no destruction. A more dramatic view assumes more rapid changes, with dramatic alterations of geography and localized areas of destruction due to earthquakes and tsunamis." That's what i've found.
That's highly impossible. Most pole shifts don't happen in one day, one year, ten years or even in a hundred years.
This appears to be one finding and is a long way from being generally accepted or having a physical mechanism within the Earth's core proposed to explain it:
The new findings are likely to prompt a new wave of debate, and even Bogue notes that the rock patterns he spotted may have another explanation. The crystals in the rock that show a speedy magnetic field change may be anomalous, he told New Scientist–a “burst of rapid acceleration” in an otherwise slow and steady process.
I should point out this is magnetic poles not rotational. One degree per million years would be considered fast for rotational pole shift.
At the bottom it said a rapid magnetic pole shift would not have any big impacts on our lives, but on others it said that it would cause earthquakes and tsunamis, by others i mean almost every single page except the one you linked.
but on others it said that it would cause earthquakes and tsunamis
Which 'others' were these? I'm guessing that they might be crank discussion forums like abovetopsecret or godlike productions.
Magnetic polar reversal doesn't cause earthquakes and tsunamis.
Thanks for the help guys, i was watching "/watch?v=uAm-kbzT7xw" when they mentioned the rapid pole shifts i freaked, so i googled it and found "proof" of it happening, i'm not sure if they meant magnetic or rotational, but since you guys seem to know that stuff i trust you, thanks a lot :3
There isn't any proof of one happening. And I would advise to avoid Youtube. Youtube was a haven for the 2012 crackpots. I'm sure they are trying to peddle new garbage on there now.
But the major point here is, even if it was true, what difference would it make? Nothing you wouldn't even notice.
I may have just joined a few days ago but, I've been coming here since, December 21, 2010.
