I think that was the same event that actual native Maya were not allowed into, whereas mocked up, song-and-dance look-a-likes were the main event of the festival.

On stage, non-indigenous peoples were wearing indigenous clothes in a folklore show while non-indigenous attendees from the Guatemalan elites were in the most important ceremonial Mayan center, Tikal, waiting for the new era to arrive. Indigenous peoples were left outside, were they were demonstrating, playing the traditional instrument marimba.

I predicted this.
The people on the site are just actors pretending to be Mayan.

I think the respective governments should take legal action against those damaged these historic sites. As one who studied and appreciated anthropology and archaeology, this lack of respect by these new age idiots is infuriating. And of course they didn't let actual Mayans on the site… They would have found many things wrong with what was going on. One of my friends who is Mayan and from the Yucatan to be exact will be furious. I will send him this article. Thanks for sharing.
