Other Claims

Solar System Changes

Some doomsayers make outrageous claims about supposed changes in the solar system. These are generally either complete falsehoods, or so mangled that they might as well be. For example, we have recently seen a lot of claims that Comet Elenin caused Jupiter's axis to tilt.

Plague/Virus

Once again the 2012 hoaxers have ripped off a plot line from Hollywood. This time it is the plot of “I Am Legend”, or any one of a number of ‘virus wipes out the population’ scenarios from movies or video-games where everyone is turned into zombies. The recent outbreak of the “novel influenza A(H1N1)” (a.k.a. “swine flu”) has caused this scenario to quickly rise to the top in the 2012 hoaxer’s gestalt. Of course there is no way to say that there will not be a global pandemic in 2012. On the other hand there is no way to say that there will be one either. Every year there are epidemics that crop up and are localized and treated before they become pandemic. There is no way to link these events with 2012.

Nuclear War

Recent tensions between the U.N. and North Korea have been escalating, and have pretty much instantly been pounced upon by 2012 doomsday advocates. Once again, there is no way to tell for sure whether or not there will be an armed conflict with North Korea. However, I would expect it to have happened in late 2009 (when tensions were very high) rather than in 2012.

Fluoridation, the Pineal Gland, and plots by the New World Order

In a truly bizarre article one author claims that fluoride inhibits the pineal gland, and that in order to prepare for the spiritual transformation (quoting from Carlos Barrios) we should avoid fluoridated water, and walk around outside without a hat for a couple hours per day. Of course, the author also pushes Laetril, and coffee enemas as cancer cures, and is stridently anti-vaccination.

Non-2012 Claims

Of course, 2012 is not the only date predicted. Besides the extensive list on A Brief History of the Apocalypse, there are other, contemporary claims as well.

Harold Camping

Harold Camping's 'Family Radio' network claimed that 'The Rapture' would occur on May 21st, 2011, along with global earthquakes. After multiple failures of his rapture predictions, he now claims that there was a "spiritual judgement" on May 21st.
