OK, a bit of background here: I am not a wiccan, and I know very little about them. I have not studied their beliefs, and what I do know was gleaned from conversations I've had with them over the years.

1) Wicca is not Satanism. Satanism is more of an "anti-christianity" than anything else, and Satanists seem to go out of their way to offend. The so-called "father" of Satanism was Anton LaVey, the author of the Satanist Bible. LaVey borrowed a lot of elements from various pagan belief systems, hence the perceived connection between pagan and satanist beliefs.

2) Wicca is not codified. There is no "pope" of the Wiccans, and from what I can tell, no 'sacred scripture' either. As such, it probably has many varied forms.

3) Wicca is, at its core, essentially a form of naturalism… worship of nature. Wiccans tend to personify "nature" as a matched pair of gods, or rather a "god" and a "goddess", much like some traditional eastern beliefs pair yin and yang. They are also frequently big into 'spirits' of various forms and purposes.

4) Wicca is one of several forms of naturalistic paganism. Not all 'pagans' are 'wiccan'.

So… don't let your wiccan neighbor 'creep you out'. Besides, she's probably a very nice person. Would you be similarly 'creeped out' by a buddhist, or an atheist, or a muslim?

Hi Tyler,
Wiccans use the pentagram. Apparently, Satanists also use it, but with 2 points up and the head of a goat inside it.

Hi Tyler,
No, Wiccans are not Satanists. They are sometimes called "white witches." Some or all (I'm not sure) believe in a god and a goddess.

Hi Jim;

Thank you for your kind words, and thank you for taking the time to come here and comment. Seriously, the supportive comments we receive are very important to us, and it is the only form of 'payment' we will accept. The only other thing we would ask is that you share the site with anyone who is concerned or curious about the whole "2012" phenomenon.

The authors of this site have a wide diversity of belief systems, but everyone accepts and respects science. I know of at least one Christian (me), a few atheists or agnostics, at least one Wiccan, and a handful of others whose belief systems I have no idea about. It never seemed to be important. Our common goal is to counter the dangerous and destructive hoax that is scaring people. Our chosen weapons are science and logic. It seems to be working so far.

I realize that many (maybe all) of you may not embrace any faith in a Divine being. For me, faith and science coexist quite well and Divine intervention explains the origin of matter, energy and life.

Regardless of your religious beliefs, thank you for providing good, hard, logical (and witty) counterpoints to what the History Channel and others have been putting out. Hey, I hope to get to Heaven, but I'm not looking to do so prematurely, or in some horrifyingly cataclysmic way, and I certainly pray for a long and happy life for my 3 year old son.

I didn't think the "science" looked right, and was unsupported, and the 2012 arguments were conflicting, sketchy, dubious and convoluted, so I set about to take apart the arguments for myself. I don't believe in metaphysical, new age mumbo-jumbo, and I had already settled the Mayan calendar thing to my satisfaction. I started dissecting the "scientific" arguments when I ran across this site. I was quite happy to see others had already done the work, and far better than I would have been able to do!

God bless you (and I mean that most sincerely) for helping kids and adults who have been suffering over this nonsense.
