There are many "sunstorms" over the course of the Sun's regular cycle. Some are worse than others. 2013 is the current projection for the next solar maximum, which is a time of heightened activity that comes about approximately every 11 years. At this time, the 2013 maximum is projected by the consensus of a NOAA/NASA panel to "be below average in intensity, with a maximum sunspot number of 90."

No storm will be dangerous for Earth or life on earth, but a severe solar event might disrupt satellites, communications and power grids. If you can manage to go without electricity or a cell phone for a while, you'll be fine. That aside, whether we're moving into a solar maximum or not, it's always prudent to have some emergency supplies on-hand and perhaps invest in a generator.

I've just read in some newspapers that some scientists had meeting and warned that there will be some sunstorm which also happened 1989 but it was small one. 2013 could be much bigger and dangerous for Earth. What do you think about that?
