First off if you would like to create a page on this site, it is as simple as creating a wikidot username. After that go to the "About" area at the top of the website and click "How to join this wiki?". There should be an option to request membership to the website and then after being accepted you will be able to use the Tools to create a page. I just created my first page, the "Hindu" page. We have been asked a lot recently, mostly the month of March about so called "predictions" about a devastating California quake or a world destroying quake etc. These both came about because of the Japanese quake and then the "supermoon". The people making these predictions gave their selves a pretty big window by moving their date up more and more til the 29th was the latest I believe. Obviously those "predictions" failed to come true. As far as California "falling off into the ocean" USGS has a Q&A relating to that here. Good luck creating your page and I'm sure if you need help with anything, I and the other folks here will be glad to help.

I want to add that there seem to be a lot of rumors concerning The Big One in California. They seem to tie it in with 2012 rumors, though everyone knows that So Cal has been waiting for this earthquake for quite some time and a single quake has nothing to do with the end of the world.

Since the beginning of the last century, pseudoscientists and "psychics" have been speculating that california will simply fall off the continent into the ocean and that this certainly will happen as a result of the next big EQ—probably in 2011 or 2012!!!

I don't even know where to start with this. This whole concept deserves its own debunking page as several 2012 doomsayers cite Edgar Cayce and that Joe Brand prediction and a couple other wacked out prophesies.

They predicted many dates in March only. It failed the 15th, it failed the 19th, it failed the 26th, it failed the 29th March.

Yes we're off to a good start.

I predict it's going to be a bumper year for failed predictions (except this one).

That would be millions of years.

I beg to differ, they said the last time the big one occured was early 1600 then 1900 hence technically every 300 years but this time it may come sooner :-)

I agree with you. We had earthquakes in the San Andreas fault in the past, and probably there will be another in the future. The question is when, but then we can't know it. That's simple to understand. Whatever you see about the next 'big one' the internet, you can know it is speculation. ;-)

There is nothing new in that video. We have always known that there will be more large quakes along the San Andreas fault in the future. It has nothing to do with the Japan earthquake. It is because the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate are movong past one another at the San Andreas. There have been quakes there throughout all the time the 2 plates have been against each other there. That would be millions of years.

Yes, the Ring of fire does extend down the west coast of the Americas.

"People on the West Coast have been talking about the "big one" for a long time. It is so active there geologically that it is obvious that there will be a big Earthquake again there at some point. That is why there is research going into quake resistant structures and such. I believe the "ring of fire" stretches to the West Coast of America if I am not mistaken."
